I'm not talking about Syria but the actual phone. I'm getting ready to go on a camping trip to Big Bend. Our group is booked at Rio Grande Village in late Nov. We were discussing what the weather would be like by the river. So I said I would look to see what the weather is right now. I type in weather on google and the first choice is "weather at Rio Grande Village"? What the hell?? I have not searched anything on my phone about Big Bend. I only use my laptop.

Another time I couldn't find the channel to the Cubs game and I did a quick search on Google. I typed in "what" and then google filled in the rest "what channel is the Cubs game on"

I swear my phone is listening to me. Is there anyway to turn this off?

Are you logged in to your accounts on the laptop and phone?

That is usually the case.

Your search history is used when they sync together.

Doubt they have the technology to pull that off anyway.

Yes, all smart phones do. It's marketing apps that track information for marketing. They're stock on just about every phone. Your camera collects information as well.

It's definitely using the mic to eavesdrop.
The age of privacy is gone bud.

Probably. This would explain the weather search but not the Cubs channel.

same thing happened to me. Was talking about Laphroaig scotch. I had never searched for it before or even heard of it.

Go on my phone and I am getting an ad for it

But but but, it's all just to "assist" you and to "better your customer engagement" with the new interconnected world.

I read something about this a few years ago. It IS an ongoing thing. All devices with a speaker and internet connection are listening and the data used to gauge and measure humanity in general and specific individual activities, etc.. (every speaker can be a microphone, every microphone can be a speaker).

But no worries, it's all just to make for a better "user experience". Of course User Experience is what we used to call Life.

I have noticed that if a certain person's name comes up in conversation a few times, If I'm not already fb friends with them, they are the first suggested person. Same with instagram. Maybe coincidence

I've had this happens to me. One day the wife calls and is telling me about my 2 yr old son peeing on the floor while she changed his diaper.

10 minutes later, I was looking at the OT and an add appears for pet urine removal products. It was pretty freaky honestly.

This is not new. Your phone is most definitely doing this. It's not tinfoil shite. Just helps you find shite you were talking about and so forth. Pretty creepy but it's cool as shite at the same time.

eta: personally first time I actually caught it in action and was definitely a 'listening' experience. I was watching something on Netflix and the gf and I started talking about "what was that chick in?" I pulled up phone and went to google her name and it popped up in the autocomplete. I was like Keanu Reeves "WOAH!". This was 2 years ago on an S5 Active.
Netflix app wasn't on the phone nor do I have a smart TV with google connected. My phone heard it via Google using the mic to pick up conversations.

Pretty cool in my opinion. Others are creeped the frick out.

Logged into google probably

ps - the cubs game was probably the most googled thing that day or you've google "Cubs" previously so it grabbed that. For ex - I just typed in "what time" on my pc and it showed "what time does LSU play today"

But I'm not defending apple maybe they are listening.
