So do you walk around WalMart staring down everyone on a cell phone until they hang up? Seems like it would take hours to get shopping done.

Someone needs to prove/disprove this quickly. My F14 is idling at the airport and I must be about my bidness.

I appreciate your concern (I really do since I was rude to you at one time). But, I don't need medicine. What I need is for people to stop using their cell phones around me.

I'm not remotely paranoid. All I want is peace. I want to be left alone. I want to shop or eat out without people pointing their cell phone at me.

And, don't forget about stingrays, the fake cell phone towers

I would say that every police dept that's in a city with more than one street light uses these. They can't use the information directly in court, but they can use it to be at the right place at the right time to be able to make a bust disguised as a routine traffic stop or whatever. You can download apps to detect these. If I knew which one or ones actually worked I would download one.

The rest of your post makes you sound nuttier than a payday bar. But 60 mins has done segments on how easy phones are to hack and intercept with a Stingray and I've googled the price of a Stingray and a police dept could easy afford one. One decent bust would pay for the stingray.

Ya big dummy. It's not constantly recording.

These voice assistants aren't good at telling the difference between you and a recording yet, that's why podcasts and infamous TV commercials can set them off. I do think in the future they'll be doing this kind of processing, and Amazon had pretty blatantly introduced an always on active listening device into homes, but the tech is just not there yet. They still do the processing in the cloud and if they were constantly sending unexpected data back to the mothership somebody would have noticed and started a shite storm already.

Google's autocomplete has been spookily accurate for years even before everyone had a mic in their pocket. As has already been pointed out, you people are not nearly as unique as you think you are and you are likely not the first person in your area to ask google about the game that everyone is watching or the star of a movie that you watched not completely at random, but probably because NetFlix recommended it to you just like they recommended it to a bunch of other people.

They also let advertisers target "like" audiences. So you don't even have to search something to get an ad, you just have to have a profile close enough to someone that did do a search or bought a product to see an ad that your doppleganger triggered, not you.

I don't shop at Walmart. There are some small shops where it doesn't happen. But, in grocery stores, it is really bad. I can't stop everyone, but I've asked a few people "why are you pointing your phone at me?"

Is it too much to ask to be able to shop without having cell phones pointed at me? That's not an unreasonable request.

Even cars do it - I pull up beside some car, and then there's someone yakking on their cell phone looking at me.

So if I was at a restaurant waiting on my food to arrive, and you were sitting at the next table, and my phone rang, it's a good friend, so I answer it. It's a legitimate call, not me trying to spy on you. You would stare me down until I hung up? That's just mean.

I love Dad, but I need to listen to him less. I know I frustrate him, but the fact is undisputable that people are cell phoning me and it needs to stop.

Medicine is not what I need. Peace is what I need.

pretty rude imo. I don't talk on the phone in public unless it's urgent

But I'm sitting here wondering why I think that. Is it just me?

Eh, I usually don't either. Just a hypothetical.
