Didn't read the whole thread,but have you tried giving him an antler?
My GSP rips everything up, but the antler has lasted a good while. Obviously it isn't a pull and tug toy, but it's lasting.

Kong toys are the best!

ETA: the Kong toy that wobbles when the dog paws or noses it delivers a treat if it wobbles the correct way. Really fun to watch and keeps the pup busy.

There is a line of stuffed toys made with a Kevlar like lining and is supposed to be indestructible. They are not indestructible and are quite pricy. My dog can rip them apart in under 15 minutes.

Kong toys or a REAL fire hose. That works.
