I found this on the interweb just now and thought the OT would enjoy it.

Who doesn't expect a hold after they deposit a large check!

quote:

I have been doing my business banking with Washington Mutual Bank (and it's predecessors) for 20 years. This afternoon I went to make a large 5 figure deposit and was told the funds would be held for TWO WEEKS. Bear in mind these are GOVERNMENT checks. The branch manager then informed me this was new policy and it could not be over ridden. When I told them I wanted my deposit items back, they refused... out comes my cell phone... dial 911... "Yes I have just been robbed at a bank".... Cop cars... lights... sirens... By now I am telling EVERYONE in the bank exactly what is wrong with this fricking country. After consulting with a SVP, I got my deposit back, was hand cuffed and led out... (I think the cops wanted me out before the other customers started a riot). I was threatened with making a false police report among other things... guess I will wait and see what the prosecutor decides to do. Just who do these mother fricking bankers think they are? It is time for the pitchforks and torches. I am so angry I can barely see straight.

In all fairness, it was MY money. My only regret is involving the police.

I do think it is silly in this day and age to have a hold on checks, especially for something so paltry as a few ten thousand

They usually clear part of it right away. Then they may put a hold on x amount until it clears and checks out.

If he had an account with "high five figures in it" they would of covered the check then and there.

Maybe I'm just poor but a 2 week hold seems excessive in this day and age of computers.

He did.

Should help his case immensely.

It is and "it is just a small amount" blah blah blah for the "douche" but it ain't a small amount for the bank and if it clears to them quicker than 14 days they get free use of the money
