I just read this a few minutes ago. This a-hole needs to burn. What pleasure could he possibly get from shooting this animal.

What did the 35,000 pounds he paid to shoot the animal go towards? A lot of times the trophy fees go towards conservation and without them these conservation areas wouldn't have enough funding to run.

"I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt," Palmer said, according to CBS. "I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion."
I agree with you but your OP sucks and will fail because of the lack of Info you gave.
Here I'll help.

Cecil the lion's killer revealed as American dentist
EXCLUSIVE: A Minnesota father of two is discovered to be the hunter who shot dead Cecil – one of Zimbabwe's most loved lions
quote:
Cecil the lion – the most famous creature in one of Zimbabwe's national parks – was killed by an American hunter who has boasted about shooting a menagerie of animals with his bow and arrow, The Telegraph can reveal.
Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, is believed to have paid £35,000 to shoot and kill the much-loved lion with a bow and arrow. The animal was shot on July 1 in Hwange National Park. Two independent sources have confirmed the hunter's identity to the paper, which has also seen a copy of the relevant hunting permit.
quote:
During the hunt – which the organisers later admitted was badly carried out – Cecil was lured at night about half a mile out of the national park using bait, and then shot with a bow and arrow. The next day he was found wounded by the hunters and killed, before being beheaded and skinned.
Animals cannot be killed within the confines of the park. The hunters then removed his collar – further contravening park rules.
The professional hunter, Theo Bronkhorst, said he reported the "mistake" to the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority the following day, and it is now being investigated. The landowner bordering the national park has been charged - along with Mr Bronkhorst. Both are due to appear in court on August 6.
I understand hunting, I do not understand predator hunting, unless to protect livestock or game.

I love stupid PETA type dummies that don't understand the good this hunt does. Props on being an uneducated PETA type though.
ETA: Sorry your OP had zero information and I skimmed one reply in the thread.

I'm all for hunting exotic animals because, like the other poster said, the fees usually go towards conservation. I don't even mind the giraffes and zebras, etc. because the guides typically allow you to hunt old and sickly ones that can't reproduce anymore. But this sounds like they broke rules and shot one that wasn't supposed to be killed.

He set that conservation area back a great deal actually.
quote:
Dr Andrew Loveridge, one of the principal researchers on the project, told the publication that Cecil and another male lion named Jericho led two prides with six lionesses and a dozen young cubs, and he feared for the safety of the cubs now Cecil had been killed.
"Jericho as a single male will be unable to defend the two prides and cubs from new males that invade the territory. This is what we most often see happening in these cases. Infanticide is the most likely outcome," he said.
One lion dead might lead to 6 more dying.

Perhaps, but you never really know where the money goes in these countries. (Edit: I read on another site that the money was actually a bribe so they could get the lion lured out of the park).
Plus, killing an animal with a tracking collar on it is one of the most stupid things you can do.

Your best bet is to ignore that poster. I know I usually do because he is just a hair above being borderline retarded I think.

I hate threads that have no description and just a link with no quotes or cliffs.

This was a tagged and protected animal on a wildlife refuge that was lured out for sport. It led a rare co-pride, meaning there were two males at the head of the pride, the other male is not belived to be strong enough to take care of both prides alone and this will lead to the eventual deaths of a dozen cubs when the new males take over those prides.
No good came of this. A weak Lion is taken out by stronger Lions, not an arrow. I'm not a Peta type at all but anyone who says this was a legit hunt is a troll.
