Favorite city besides New York, San fran is a great drinking town, try the Russian hill area.
Financial district has some great happy hour spots during the week.
All the morons on here making gay jokes have obviously never been to San Fran. The weather is perfect and the city is great.

RD's cafe Korean fusion, if the giants are playing get tickets to that those are fun. Head down to golden gate park smoke pot with hippies and throw the frisby with a homeless person's dog. Get a beer at the Kezar pub when you're through, maybe hit up the beach blanket babylon show. See how many blocks you can walk through the tenderloin before some negro tries to kill you if you're white for me it was about a block and a half. Ride the streetcar down to the wharf get some ice cream at ghiradelli square and have an irish coffee at Buena Vista Cafe. Meet a gay and observe them in the wild since 75% of the men you meet there are homosexuals.

I love san fran. Just yelp dive bars in your area and check them out.
I really like rickhouse, they make awesome cocktails. Not too far from union square.
I will say san fran is not a friendly city when you go into bars. Lots of cities you will get chatter but my experience with san fran is you do not get chatter from regulars or the bar staff.
Its a little better if you get out of the touristy area, but I find them decidedly not friendly. Almost any bar in denver, if I walked in and sat down I would have a conversation in a few minutes. I have only gotten that at hotel bars.
eta: go to san fran for work all the time. the city 3-4x per year, the area 10-15x per year. And have done so for the last 14 years.

Roam artisian burgers on union street.
