I would, but I don't want my builder anywhere around. I tried to explain this upfront but it fell on deaf ears. He wouldn't know what to do.

Your idea about angling it out was our idea too.

well, if they built it like the drawings, is it their fault?

Man, it sounds like you've got more than enough exhaust CFM but it just gets overwhelmed when you produce a lot of smoke. is there any way you can install some sort of exhaust at the peak of your wooden ceiling area?

Looks like the vent hood isn't deep enough. Especially when you open that grill smoke comes forward and over the front of the hood.

Can't believe you designed it like that in the first place.

looks like you can open up that room or close it and air condition. Could you be getting too much open air and not getting enough air flow through the vent when you have the doors open.

You need a hood vent through the ceiling, and some better seat cushions on those bar chairs. Gotta make them pop!

Might look into an additional down draft as well. Just spit balling though

I think it will be hard to catch it all outside with wind. I'd make sure it overhangs the grill as much as possible. I was goi g to have my grill up on the house wall like that and try to vent it (code makes you). I decided to put it in a different spot so it would just blow wherever. The roof is 12' on my back porch so it's usually not a problem. Good luck....I remember that pic...great looking area.

We want to talk to someone about this option, but who?

The area is open to the outside with two large open archways.

You're right. Not sure why that matters, but I'm sorry?

I agree with Ryno. Serious design flaw and I doubt that one 8" vent pipe is sufficient. I never would have designed for the grill to be against and vent toward the house.

Yeah we originally wanted it out in the open but the boss (wife) didn't want to block the view so we moved it to this wall to keep her happy.

Of course, I can't tell her "told you so" so we just need to find another option.

From one clown to another. Nice kitchen.

Why are their vents in the wooden area of the ceiling? Is your kitchen area enclosed and climate controlled?

Well thank you for your input. It is what it is and now I am looking for options to improve it. So, if you have productive suggestions...

You need a vent hood to allow for enough concentrated upward draft:
