Thanks.
Those are air/heat vents. No, it is not closed off, but yes, these do control the temp in this area regardless.

Let the Walker Prosecutor live in your attic and maybe he can suck it all up.
Call Appliance Distributors. You need a bigger vent hood and a bigger motor. Also run the ceiling fan and quit burning the food.
Or run the ceiling fan and don't run the exhaust. I have one like that without exhaust vent. Ceiling fan moves it and you are not sucking it up through the house so you won't smell it. I just clean the ceiling fan every few months.

first, that is the nicest outdoor kitchen setup I have ever seen...absolutely awesome!
as for the smoke, I may be mistaken, but it looks like the grill is not set back far enough relative to the exhaust to catch all of the fumes. It looks to me like you would need some kind of commercial exhaust hood to catch that amount of smoke...something like they would put over the grill inside of a restaurant.
I would check in with some place that installs restaurant appliances...

A better design would be a stainless hood above the grill that vents through the roof. This is the only way to properly do it.

I would, but I don't want my builder anywhere around. I tried to explain this upfront but it fell on deaf ears. He wouldn't know what to do.
Just curious - who was the builder?

You should see the one posted by another poster recently. Can't remember his handle bUT it was very very nice.

How close is the actual vent tot he stove top. Thats the biggest issue possibly. I tried to get mine as close to the fire as possible.

You need to clean your bricks with a bit of muratic acid to get that film off. Cut it with water.

try lowering your vent hood or go larger vent. What's the HP on the vent?

Ok. Here's my contribution. Get a company out to your house that specializes in these builds instead of asking random Interneg guys for a solution. The design is clearly flawed and you need an expert to offer the proper solution.
Best of luck to you. It's beautiful and I hope you get the issue rectified.

That's just it. I'm not sure who to call so I was asking people for their thoughts on who I could get out here.
Not sure Appliance Distibutors is the right call. I think they just sell appliances, not design and install.
What about HVAC guys? General contractors? Shoppers Choice may know who to call?

My vent looks larger and maybe a little closer than yours. Does your vent catch all of the smoke?

Call Cayards...they do commercial kitchen ventilation and are reasonably priced.

This. A custom exhaust hood built right would fill in the void you have above the pit. Even adding some LED lights with color changing will make a difference.
One never has enough lights and controlling them along with mixing colors are great.
Now if you want to really make that area stand out, add a water fall along with a exhaust vent with lights behind it.
Nice set up.

Damn Fishfighter...why stop there? I'll install a stage with a stripper pole right behind the waterfall. I'll post pics when done and send the OT an invite.

Just plug in a oscillating floor fan and be done with it
