and the absolutely stupid way that it narrows to one lane on the east side.
lets also not forget about the optional turn lane in the middle of the westbound lanes - if truck traffic needs to go to DOW or south of there, they have to slow to 30mph on a frickin interstate going downhill.
Seriously, whoever designed that shite bridge should have been shot.

That chart is 12 years old...do you have any idea how much traffic the internet has taken over on the last 12 years.

this is a chart of tractor trailer traffic and its gotten heavier in the last 10 years in nashville because we're a hub (notice it comes in east/west & north/south.)
what are you drinking?

And that right there is why I always have a flask in my car.

i have never seen a bridge shut down as many times as the bridge in BR.

Why the hell do we only have 2 bridges crossing the Mississippi within the city limits? (3 if you count St. Francisville)
I know the Mississippi is a wide river, but:
The city of St. Louis has 6 bridges crossing the Mississippi River.
The city of Austin has 8 bridges crossing the Colorado River.
Nashville has 8 bridges crossing the Cumberland River.

Do the wrecks normally happen on the bridge itself, or the clusterfrick of exits on the east side of the bridge?

I ask because I think that Washington St exit causes most of these wrecks. But I have no data to support that.

Well, for starters, neither of those rivers are a half mile fricking wide where the bridges cross. Turns out that bridges over a half mile fricking wide river are expensive to build and maintain.
EDIT: half-mile fricking wide!

Neither of those need to have sufficient clearance for ocean going tankers, either. Of course, BR's "new" bridge is the last bridge upriver that does. Thanks Huey.

So is this the reason our state decided to build one between New Roads at St. Francisville?
There should be another bridge at Choctaw/Chippewa, Bluebonnet, St. Garbriel, or even the Plaquemine area.
Plaquemine would drop the plant worker traffic coming from Dow traveling to Ascension and Livingston...

Nah, someone's district needed some pork. There might have been something about an evacuation route that gets over the river North of the Basin, but I may be making that up.
I agree on a crossing in the St. Gabriel to Plaquemine area connecting to Hwy. 1. It would greatly ease transportation amongst all the process plants.
