Shear has been really high this hurricane season in caribbean which is good. Usually storms love to blow up there because of all the fuel.

Cape Fear River at Wilmington is finally expected to crest today.

Waccamaw River isn't expected to crest for another couple of days at Conway SC and is expected to be about 5 feet above record flood stage.

The media has ceased reporting, but Florence is still an unfolding disaster.

A disaster in slow motion. Gauge looks like it'll miss the forecast points a little bit to the low side, but that's little comfort near a river that's going to spend over a week above the record flood level.

Having been a part of a record flood like that, can't imagine it staying that way for a week or more. I know NOLA folks can understand though.

Just watching a storm come through, doing the math, and knowing that in 2 weeks your town will be flooded from it has to be incredibly depressing.

Aren't many flood situations with that sort of lag. Katrina had people know they were flooded for weeks, but the lead time was days. Harvey, a day or two at best for Houston and out quickly. SC floods a couple of years ago, quick.

Only thing I can think of, knowing a flood was two weeks away, are big floods coming down the lower Mississippi.

My heart goes out to those folks, because the head and heartache just begins once the water drops.

ETA: New area of concern from NHC. Early model guidance brushes a weak system along the NC coast. Not expected to be very organized at least.

T# pushing 7.0 per Storm2k nerds.

Something awe inspiring seeing the chaotic process of a tropical cyclone put together such symmetry of organization.

Yep.

While we're in a hurricane zone down here, glad we don't have to deal with storms like that multiple times a year. With that projected curve out NE, that storm might set up our first proper cold front of the year in a couple of weeks too.
