Does anyone know a good website to apply for government jobs. I have an account with USA jobs already, but other suggestions would be appreciated.

I know some of you will pick at me, but I'm honestly trying to find work (preferably STEM related).

I wish I could land an engineering tech position, but I'm keeping my interest open.

I'm shocked nobody recognizes the value of an engineering degree from Southern University.

Oh they do, just look at LinkedIn.

The issue is that most have done internships while my experience is very limited.

The trick is to put damn near every word of the job posting in your resume. Be creative, a computer goes through and makes the initial matches and that's the toughest hurtle.

Search key terms like physics, metrology...apply to every one in the country that you're interested in. They'll likely move you. Some places may not be as 'diverse' as it is down here and your willingness to move will help.

There are state jobs too.

USA Jobs but make sure you're completely useless before you apply so you'll get the good jobs.

Here's what I've learned by being a Federal employee: Federal jobs can be filled via two job announcement types: Public Job Notice (PJN- open to all citizens) and Merit Promotion (open only to those currently in the US gov't), so you'd only be able to apply to PJNs. Unfortunately for you ANY and EVERY veteran who applies and is found eligible must be offered a position and either accept or turn it down before a position can be offered to you (I am assuming you aren't a veteran). So you'd need an announcement with many, many vacancies in order to get your foot in the door.

So if you really want a Federal job your four best paths (in descending order of likelihood IMO) are: 1) Research what it takes to get Veteran's preference on applications and join the military when you are sure you'll get out with those criteria; it could be 4 years of service could get you that. 2) Join TSA; that's probably the easiest way in and after 52 weeks as a Fed you become eligible to apply to any/all Merit Promotion positions, so many more announcements with less competition. If you are watching the news you see the delays at airports from TSA's shortage of staff, so you may have a chance. 3) Join the Peace Corp- 4 years of that qualifies you for some merit promotion announcements. 4) Get a private sector job where you can get a gov't clearance (defense contractor, ship building, etc. for example); getting directly into the gov't off the street is much easier (though in no way a sure thing) if you have a clearance.

I can't believe how long and torturous you are making this process.

A few things I've done since you started posting about what you should do here-

Started a new career
Got married
Had three kids
Watched them all graduate from High School & College & Graduate School
Retired

Now I'm getting ready to move into an assisted living facility.

tl/dr: Man, do something even if it's wrong.

This.

Plus, apply for jobs in towns/areas where not many people would want to go. Stay for a couple years and then you have better chance to move to larger, more populated areas.

Good luck with that federal job search.

I remember about 6 years ago when I got out of school applying for all kinds of federal jobs. Did not hear shite.

Good advice in this thread.

But I've heard stories where people who applied for a federal job like 2 years prior and finally got a call back about the job.

So, I wouldn't waste time waiting around on that phone call.

I always figured that this was the best way to become a park ranger. Find the shittiest ranger posting out there just to get in the door, then once you have a couple years under your belt, try to transfer to a more desirable location.
