Inherited an old Huffy cruiser that I am trying to decide if it's worth fixing up.

Bought a new chain for today but realize that I would need to get a chain breaker tool to install it.

How much would it run me at a bike repair shop to have them put the chain on and possibly replace the inner tubes if they are shot?

You're going to take a huffy into a bike shop?

Doesn't seem like it would be much, 30-40 max?

There's no master link? They installed that chain some kinda way.

Doesn't cost anything to call a couple of shops for an estimate.

Jeepers.

Go to walmart and buy two tubes at $3.00 each, then take off the back wheel and put the chain on as you remount the wheel.

I was repairing my 20 inch bike when I was 6 years old, over 60 years ago.

They are still the same.

That comment about a master link was also correct most of the time.

I know how to reassemble it once it's on the bike with the master link. But I put the new chain on to check and it's too long. The chain needs to be shortened with six or seven links taken out. And that is with the rear wheel at its most extended position.

go buy tubes and tires at walmart. go to bike shop and buy a chain, bring the old chain with you so they can match the length. use master link to attach chain to bike. install rubber.

About $50-$60 in BR, depending on the chain you get

ETA: didn't see that you bought a chain. Probably around $30

Some chains are installed with just a chain tool, no master link.
