I had the same thing a few years ago. Called 3 plumbers out $1,200.00 to $1,800.00. Just to run gas line that was 15'. Said bull did myself. Might of had $30.00 in black pipe elbows and pipe dope.

I would suggest leaving the 220 50-amp plug there too, as many top end ovens are "dual-fuel" which means electric oven and gas burners. Best of both worlds.

Yeah, I would diy. Black pipe or galvanized. Pipe dope on the threads and spray every connection with windex when done to check for bubbles.

It's pretty simple to do.

But i'm sure some plumber or rule-stickler will pop in here to tell you how it's not a simple job.

I just have a cooktop on an island and a double oven (electric) at the end of my cabinets.

I'd like to get one like this -- with the retractable downdraft system and 5 or 6 burners --

Would love to do this as well. I had no idea it would only be around 300 to do. I would have expected at lot higher.

Niiiice. Wolf is great, those burners will last forever. I would stay away from the Thermido like that as the stupid smart sense burners have tons of issues. The only problems you may ever have would be with the downdraft fan, but then only after a decade or so.

I was thinking about replacing my double oven with a oven microwave combo - something like this --

But, the more I thought about it and the more I watched HGTV, it seems like a double oven is a better selling point. Not that many buyers are impressed with a built-in microwave. It seems like most people expect to bring their own microwave. Plus, for whatever reason, it seems like the double ovens are cheaper than the microwave/oven combo.

Put a tee on the riser going to the heater and run plastic piping to the stove.

stick to double oven. Installed microwaves really aren't that great and won't get the ROI, a double oven is really nice.

Now if the microwave is also an Oven, then well that is even better.

If you do the downdraft you also have to install vent pipe. Would probably be a 4" pipe. Don't get one with a ton of BTUs if you don't have the proper ventilation either.

I know this is a Capt. Obvious question, but in all sincerity, why not just buy a gas stove?

Thanks, you made my day!

I don't know the answer to your question about costs, as it will depend on the length of the run as well as what, if anything is in the way.....

fwiw, you have to use black steel pipe in that application....copper and any kind of plastic shouldn't be used there...

I already have one with my current cooktop. I thought about putting in a really nice hood (see below), but it would be a pain in the arse, and I have to take out my overhead pot holder which is pretty aesthetically pleasing.

Lol. I am now on the same wavelength. Misunderstood what he meant by "convert from electric...to gas stove." Read with comprehension, Jawja. LOL.
