I'm asking because I honestly don't know. I'm betting more often than not they were not.

It's hard to imagine being in the music industry as being any less than "Gainfully Employed"

Does selling drugs count?

According to BR natives, selling CD's is considered gainfully employed

The guy shot in Minnesota was the only one with a job I think.

How is this relevant?

So if I get laid off do I need to start watching my back for cops?

Only if you BREAK THE LAW should you worry.
Also OBEY POLICE and you'll be good.

I can think of a couple, though it's probably not what you're expecting.
Here's a short list that comes to mind.
Then lastly, just for kicks
Police arrive to wrong house, shoot homeowner, his dog, and own officer

What a condescending, pretentious notion of a post. I'm not gainfully employed right now, would that justify cops killing me?

It's kind of the idle hands theory, people with real jobs are normally less likely to act an arse for fear of losing said job and not being able to provide for themselves and their family. People that have not been employed for a long time or have never been employed are more likely to be up to shady shite.

Maybe saying have ever been gainfully employed would be more accurate.
