How many of you live near spouse's family but far from your own?

Our families are over 1200 miles apart...currently, we live about half way in between them, but we're starting to think about moving to be near one or other in the next couple years. I haven't lived near my hometown for over 7 years now and I'm starting to feel guilty as my parents get older...if we move near her family, I'd just be that much farther away.
Just wanted to hear thoughts from people who face the same situation...yes, I realize we live in the modern world where nowhere is more than a plane ride away, but either way one of us is going to be a long way from 'home' no matter what.

My father used to say people almost always return to their roots. The closer the better as long as it's not next door.

We live 6 miles from her parents, 1150 from mine. I couldn't live closer to my mother. A two day drive for her allows me to prepare for her arrival. My in laws are awesome, no worries there.

I'll be honest, I would never want to be too close to parents in general. I live about 20 miles from my mom and I will say that lately she hasn't been that bad, but it is sad to say, but since not living at home anymore, I have never been able to be around my mom for more than 20-30 mins.
People will say that I should be happy to have the opportunity to have more time with my mom and I get that, but after a certain point we just don't jive. We might be both too "strong headed" and like to be in control of things. After a certain point the personalities start to clash.
Throughout most of my adult life, it was best if we were only around each other for short periods of time or not around each other for a long period of time so that on the holidays it would be easier to manage.

All of ours are dead so we just send some flowers on All Saints Day and carry on.

We're having a similar conversation, except my family is still in Nola and I don't really want to move my family to the area.

We live in San Antonio.
My folks live in College Station (about 3 hrs away)
In-laws live in North Carolina.
I am content with this arrangement.

We live 1/10 of a mile from my mom and 2 hours from wife's parents. Works out great as my mom minds her business as we do the same. Wife's parents are looking to move within 30 minutes of us as they are having health problems now.
