I keep going back and fourth on the AMEX plat. Hard to justify $450 a year but when I get the 100k point offer it's hard to throw away

I gave it up. I never used the lounge perks and concierge. Went to the Chase Sapphire Reserve, fee is about the same but I get most of it back.

One long time hold and rotate two for maximum rewards.
Guessing I've saved $5k playing the credit card game over last 6 or so years

Within six months of graduating college in 1983 I had Exxon, Mobil, Shell and Gulf gas cards, a Visa, a Master card, a personal AmEx, a business AmEx, Saks, Lord & Taylor, Wolf Brothers, Joskes, JC Penny, Sears, Montgomery Wards and maybe a few more. Sears sent an application before I took my finals. After I got it, they just kept coming in the mail. Everyone got a bunch of them back then. Thank God I never ran up more than around $5K in debt. I had friends back then that ran up $20K on just buying clothes, eating out and bar hopping.

A couple of years later I had none. I paid them all off and cut them up. I went a couple of years with none. Needed one for travel so I got an regular AmEx again. Right now I have two. Buy stuff and pay it off when I get the bill.

I got 4 also. I have never carried a balance on any of them. Pay off the statement balance at the end of each month.

Chase Freedom
Amex Blue Cash Preferred
Capital One Quicksilver
Southwest Visa

I don't have incredible credit, but its getting better. Hence why I don't have the "best" cards.

I have the:

Chase Freedom (My first credit card)

Blue Cash Everyday (I'm single. It isn't worth it for me to get the preferred. I did the math)

Penfed Platinum Rewards (great gas card. I get 5% cash back from all gas stations applied automatically to my balance)

Random store credit card that I used for a 0% deal.

It would be interesting if anyone had any suggestions.
