I have a friend that was arrested for possession of marijuana and will enroll in Pre Trial intervention courses.

Not sure how long it lasts but tell him to be prepared for a lot of drug testing. They will call him at 8 in the morning and tell him to come piss before noon and stuff to try and trip him up and not give him time to cleanse.
A guy that worked for me was going through it for a felony charge before he fell off the wagon and now that he stole from me he has two felony charges.
ETA: I am pretty sure it's called Pretrial Diversion.

I did it 15 yrs ago and I think it was 1.5 years and $1600. Just a money grab imo. Like stout said, be prepared for a lot of pee test, bs counseling sessions and probably an AA or NA meeting or two. At least I don't have a felony or misdemeanor on my record.

I'm not going to give legal advice, but these programs are becoming more trouble than they are worth.
First, they are becoming increasingly more and more expensive. Most clients can't afford them, but they have to if they want to keep their job. It becomes a huge burden for small crimes and misdemeanors, and these misdemeanors are being heard by judges who don't have law degrees (for the most part).
Also, going through the program can be just as bad as a conviction. For example, MS House Bill 481 is about changes to existing DUI laws. They are adding, maybe, expungements for DUI. Good, right? I'm not sure. First, you have to blow and fail. Then, you have to be sent to a recovery program handled by the MS Dept of Mental Health. So, if you complete the program, you won't have a comviction, but you'll have a record with the Dept of Mental Health. Uh....thank you? Which would you rather have?
Again, this isn't legal advice. I'm just talking policy. Also, House Bill 481 is being changed, but I doubt it will be changed for the better.

I delt with it for like a week, then dropped out and went to court with a lawyer, plead guilty and got 6-months unsupervised and $525 in fees.

Intervention for marijuana? What a tremendous waste of resources. What is the fine if you just pay it?

Yea as mentioned it appears to be a huge money grab.
I could see how it could break some having that extra added cost every month. It's like taking on another car note or mortgage from what I saw with the guy I knew going through it.

I'm on it right now and it's pretty fricking stupid
Posted on 5/31/14 at 7:28 pm to CaptainPanic
What's it costing you per month on average?

Went through it for fisticuffs in college. I burnt my first time offenders misdemeanor on a drunken fight with a friend.
He paid the ticket. I took the anger management class. 4 hours on a Saturday at the court house.
