Every time you drive by the place is packed. It's the damnedest thing.

Some people, especially older people, like the food

They also like the nostalgia of the decorations, which even a hipster punk has to admit are pretty cool

The managers are required to have an alliance with a local used car lot who just parks cars in the lot to give it that "must be good, it's packed" appearance.

I thought that's why it's called Cracker Barrel.

The same can be said about Lambert's. Mediocre food but somehow it's always packed, especially on Sundays.

But but but one throws the rolls and the other one has cool decorations and a gift shop!

ETA- must have quite a few Lamberts shareholders in the OT

This. When I was traveling a lot for work, it was a go-to place because it was a guaranteed good meal no matter what roadside motel I was forced to stay at. In bumfuct Egypt, a Cracker Barrel within walking distance of your interstate side hotel is a welcome sight.
