Besides the occasional how to fix my car or what kind of what to buy thread, how have message boards helped people? The anonymity gives people a voice they would not usually use and the negativity a lot of the time is overwhelming. How are they helpful?

They give me something to do when I'm taking a shite.

Seriously though, Reddit and even the OT investigators have gotten to the bottom of several big stories.

3 if you can stretch it. Cliff notes would help.

What I get from this one at least is one stop shopping. Anything happening will be on one board or another before most any "news" websites and with more info it seems.

They are helpful if you look for help, they are hurtful if you look for opinions that are different than yours.

People need thicker skin.

I think that I should point out that you have not made me laugh daily -- there have been extended periods when you were "put in the corner".

I do think that the admins would have shown a great sense of humor had they lifted your ban on Easter Sunday (2015). That was a classic idea on your part.

While this is true here, a lot of message boards don't allow negative comments towards other members.

an Owlie has risen thread would have been a classic

they also missed a chance on Cinco de Mayo ( 2011 and 2013)

some of my best work has been the reinstatement threats I have sent them

I believe that when I broached the idea of an "Owlie has risen" thread, my request thread got whacked quickly.
