How have message boards/forums helped?

Besides the occasional how to fix my car or what kind of what to buy thread, how have message boards helped people? The anonymity gives people a voice they would not usually use and the negativity a lot of the time is overwhelming. How are they helpful?

They give me something to do when I'm taking a shite.

What I get from this one at least is one stop shopping. Anything happening will be on one board or another before most any "news" websites and with more info it seems.

I think that I should point out that you have not made me laugh daily -- there have been extended periods when you were "put in the corner". I do think that the admins would have shown a great sense of humor had they lifted your ban on Easter Sunday (2015). That was a classic idea on your part.
