How dumb do you have to be to not understand common core?

I'm not here to say common core is better than the old method. I really don't know which is better and I don't care.

But I can't help but lol when people post about how confusing common core is. Maybe it's more difficult than what they post. I've seen two memes of subtraction problems posted, and with no prior knowledge of common core, I could easily see the logic behind the method. Yet everytime it is posted somewhere, parents don't complain about how the old method is better, they say they don't understand common core altogether.

58-27=?
27+3=30
30+20=50
50+8=58

Answer is 3+20+8=31

Again, not here to say this method is better. But, from someone who figured this out from two equations in memes and nothing else, if you don't understand the math behind it then you just don't get math.

I think most people understand there are different methods that work for each individual, but common core makes kids do it this way. That is the bullshite. Hey kid, you got the answer right but we're not counting it because you didn't show the 92 steps it took (with this silly methodology)

As I said, I don't know or care which is better. I haven't heard the reasonings behind either method of teaching.

But, if common core's purpose is to better provide an understanding and reasoning behind why the answer is the answer, in the long run it will probably benefit students. Doing basic math as fast as possible isn't as important to development as understanding the principles behind the equations, IMO.

Why teach it at all since we all have calculators. The point is to give math context and meaning vs just being pointless memorization.

Only a complete retard cannot see the value in the new math. I wish I had been taught that way as it would have completely changed my perception of numbers.

If you have 58 of something, and you take away 27 of them, you are left with 31 of them. Why do you need to got through all of the other steps to do this?

I'm curious if the top 26 solve their math problems the same way common core teaches?

It took me a second because I'm not used to seeing it written out like that. I guess it's not that much different than how I do a lot of math in my head. There are little tricks like that that make things quicker and some combinations of numbers that are easier to add together for some reason that seems to make it quicker.

The segment of our society that can't do the old math isn't going to suddenly excel with this garbage.

maybe I'm stupid and I've never been taught the method, but how and why does one get to this:

27+3=30
30+20=50
50+8=58

from this?

58-27=?
