In front of Oak Alley at sunset, after a day of hanging out in New Orleans. She cried and I have been showered with BJ's and unlimited poo-nanny since....

Jenkins Point on Seabrook Island, South Carolina at sunset.

...on St. Patrick's Day.

Went into Charleston afterwards with the family.

Awesome night to say the least.

Took a while, but I found it

quote:

I'm sure I'll catch hell for the cheesiness of this, but oh well.

My at the time gf had no idea that I was going to propose because I had just started my job out of college and had been telling her I couldn't afford to get her the type of ring she deserved. I also told her that I had not spoken to her father about it, and he was out of town the entire week leading up to the proposal (she knew I would not do it without talking to him first, because that was important to both of them).

Unbeknownst to her, I left the office early one day and drove out to talk to her dad. That afternoon, I went to the jeweler to pick out the diamond for the ring (we had already found a setting, so I only had to get the rock). The ring would be ready for the following Thursday, so then I just needed a plan to pop the question.

We both love Ruth's Chris, so I called the manager to see what I could arrange. We set a few details up, then I just needed to get the ring to him once it was ready. For that, I had my best man meet me at the jeweler to take the ring to Ruth's.

So we went out to celebrate my new job at Ruth's Chris, at least that's what she thought we were celebrating. We went about our meal as usual, and everything was nice. We ordered dessert. When the waiter brought our dessert out, one of the managers brought out two glasses of champagne. The glass for her had a wine glass charm that had the ring on it. Once she noticed, I asked her to marry me, and of course she said yes.

I'm sure this will get a bunch of TL,DRs, but I'm ok with that.

On a cruise at sunset on the top deck of the boat.

I had originally planned on proposing on the cruise when we were in the USVI at the top of this really cool overlook, but I was so nervous and couldn't wait until then. That was supposed to be on the 4th day of the cruise. I made it until the 2nd day and just couldn't wait anymore, so I just went ahead with the sunset thing right before dinner. Still turned out awesome even if it wasn't my original plan.

Wouldn't you have to have a girlfriend first? You shouldn't have to worry about this for a while.

Think about what she likes and make is special for her. If you can't do this, ask a female who knows her well and can keep their mouth shut to help you.

What I did:

She loves fortune cookies and had been saving every fortune since we had been dating. I got a couple fortune cookies, wrapped them in a damp paper towel and microwaved 30 seconds to make them soft, opened them up and put a message that I had Photoshopped to look like a real fortune in one that said "today you will receive a proposal you have been waiting for". In the other cookie was the ring.

I invited her to a picnic at our favorite park, picked up Chinese takeout, and then after we ate I pretended to open the cookie package and handed her the one with the fortune. After she read hers, I said "I wonder what mine says?" Then I broke the fortune cookie open, exposing the ring, and asked her.

*Note: You have about 5-6 seconds after unwrapping the fortune cookie from the damp paper towel to swap out it's contents before it hardens back up.

I'll share.

While riding elephants in India. I had set it all up via email with the elephant sanctuary. They dressed one up for the moment. I hopped off, she said yes.

We had done the Taj Mahal a few days before, so that threw her off.

How did you propose?

Backstory: We dated for approx 4 years before I proposed. We originally met playing poker at a mutual friend's house. We knew that we would eventually get married, but neither were in a big rush. Plus I wanted it to be a big surprise and not a cheesy public proposal (just a cheesy private one LOL).

I wanted to incorporate how we met into the proposal, so I made a customized deck of cards with my speech and proposal on it. We were playing poker at a friends house the next week, so I told her that she needed to practice and we sat down to play (she played maybe once or twice a year). When i ran the cards out I had them all out in the correct order for the proposal.

I thought about doing a semi-private public proposal until I realized that I had no idea what ring to get even with her family's help. She has very unique tastes and I would definitely get something she didn't love. We went the next day and picked out a diamond and had a ring made. It wasn't even close to what I would've picked out. It was comforting when she was saying the ring cost too much and wanted something smaller...I still got that one since she loved it so much. It's been 2 years since proposal (married 7 months) and she still admires the ring like it was yesterday.

In the field next to my parents property, had a candlelit dinner of her favorite things waiting for her, then asked her to marry me

We were married in the same field a year later.
