Same thing happened to us, she was jumping up in our bed on a Sunday and by Tuesday morning we had to put her down.

Best thing you can do right now is go in your notes app on your phone and start writing down every good memory you have of him. It will help to think of good memories and if you don’t write them down you’ll lose them.

If I offered you a pill that would take the pain away would you take it? This would nearly erase your memories of the dog, or the memories of the connection you had.

Then you don’t understand what love is. That’s tragic for you.

I’ve lost a child so I consider myself qualified to understand what a tragic loss feels like. Losing my pets don’t even register on the scale.

It sucks. Nobody wants to put down an animal, especially their pet but, it happens. I put mine down a little over a month ago. Even though the vet put her down while I held her, I still feel like the executioner. I still expect to see her when I wake up every morning. This will fade over time.

That’s a hell of a run, but this is the responsibility we take on when we bring them into our lives. Our oldest turns 15 next month and Gizmothepug turns 14 in October, I know what’s coming but as of now I know we gave them the best life we could. Maggie's Song
Song from Chris Stapleton might be worth a listen.

If you understand what grief is then you should be able to get why someone would grieve over a lost pet. You’re either trying to be edgy or just stupid.

funny, you don't say the same thing to redstick, yet i am saying the EXACT same thing as him...

losing a pet is no where near the same level of grief as losing a human...

you can just go buy another fricking pet... you can't just go pick up another grandmaw, or uncle, or whatever, if they die...

like i agreed with originally, it sucks, but just get another one and move the frick on... "grieving" for over a year for a pet, like some here are saying is fricking INSANE to me...

No you said you “don’t understand” why someone would grieve over a lost pet. It’s pretty understandable if you’ve ever loved a pet. Maybe you haven’t done that yet, no reason to come on here and be an a-hole about it.

sure, i've had pets that i loved, but at the end of the day, they are just that a pet... just like i got that one pet, i can easily get another, and another, and another...

if it was the ONLY pet you could EVER own, i could see the whole grieving process, but damn, that's not the case...

Needed a change from dogs and I’ll be damned if I’m not just as attached to this cat as I was the previous dogs

Cats are smart, loving and playful. Plopping on the floor rolling around and just want to chill with you, eating cheetos.

We had to yesterday he was 17 yrs old failed kidneys, liver and was losing vision. He went down in a matter of days. Its tough on us my first dog, just want to know how long before the pain go away. I understand it was better for him it just was so abrupt he went to the groomer Saturday and put down yesterday after the vet said nothing they could do and it was time. We have one more thats 15 years old, just feel empty at the house. Never experience this smh

You cry because you’re sad. You laugh at all the funny memories. You smile at all the times he brought you joy. Finally, you miss him until eventually the pain isn’t so sharp and eventually dulls. Basically it’s time. Time will help you get over it and continue on.
