How come America is so frickin' car dependent and duped by Elon Musk?

Hey, y'all! I was wondering if we could chat about something pretty remarkable. You know how America seems to be less enthusiastic about train services like Amtrak compared to countries like Germany, China and Japan? I mean, they have those cool bullet trains, and California can't even seem to get their train project off the ground! So, why is America so darn car-dependent?
But here's the thing, let's zoom in on NOLA and the bayou. Don't you think they could really use some better train services? I mean, picture this: cruising through the heart of the bayou on a train, immersing yourself in that unique Southern charm. It would be pretty amazing connecting NOLA to Houston, right?
Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty and explore why NOLA and the bayou need improved train services in three paragraphs. Stay with me!
First off, America has always had a love affair with cars. It's like they're part of our DNA or something. After World War II, we embraced the whole suburban lifestyle and car culture like nobody's business. Highways and personal vehicles became symbols of freedom and convenience. So, while countries like Germany and Japan were busy investing in sleek bullet trains, we were cruising down Route 66. Amtrak and train services took a backseat to our car obsession, plain and simple.
But hold up! Let's not forget the geography and population density of NOLA and the bayou. Germany and Japan have these compact, densely populated urban areas, making it easier to justify high-speed rail. NOLA and the bayou, on the other hand, are spread out and not as urbanized. The long distances and lower population density make it harder to justify big investments in train infrastructure. However, that doesn't mean we don't need better train options!
So, here's the bottom line: NOLA and the bayou could seriously benefit from improved train services. Have you ever gotten stuck in NOLA traffic? It's a nightmare! A good train system could help alleviate that congestion and offer an alternative for locals and visitors alike. And let's not forget about the bayou's natural beauty and unique culture. Imagine hopping on a train and leisurely exploring those breathtaking landscapes while supporting the local economy. It's a win-win situation, my friends!
What do y'all think?

And who is going to pay for it? You want to be taxed for this?

You need a car to get around those cities.
Take this tax increase and shove it.

Cars are superior to trains. I can go precisely where I want to go anytime I care to go.

We’re free country vs their government controlled country. Keep the communist Dems in power and we’ll all be forced into this reality

Route 66 is 25O0 miles long. The distance between Dublin and the Syrian border.
And..

America could have built subway / train systems in every American city and all across the country with what our government pissed away in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hell they could have built a ton of high speed for what they lit on fire in Afghanistan and Ukraine in the last two years alone.
We'd use trains if they were convenient and functioned well. But no one's going out of their way to use a shitty system when cars work better.

I like doing what I like to do. I can pick up and roll whenever. I like freedom.
Also Germany is the size of a single US state and do we really want to be like China?

Thank the lord it is put to better uses like subsidizing the private energy sector, building sports arenas in urban cities for billionaire sports teams, and professional baseball and football facilities for Jr. High and High School teams in podunk.
And maybe Europe will one day do away with those awful laws banning owning a car in cities with rail availability.

Not interested in any thing in Nola. Can you imagine what those thugs in that city would do with a train?

To what end? How many people make this trip on a daily basis? If they were connected why would people make this trip daily?
