who the frick would ever need to keep ice longer than 12 hours?
I went to the camp last Thursday through Sunday evening and had 2 yetis keep ice the whole time.

One had a watermelon I put in it Thursday to keep cold and we didn't cut it open for the kids until Sunday.

Was pulling ice out of it all weekend for dont bourbon drinks

Coleman makes 1000's of products unrelated to preserving ice. They are concentrating on an overall production and sales picture. This has left them insulated from the wants, needs, and willingness of the consumer to pay high dollar for the coolness factor of a product like Yeti.

Coleman/igloo hinges and latches are complete shite. Yeti/artic worth it from that alone IMO, plus the yeti cooled beer are colder. My only complaint is they're heavy AF.

Coleman/igloo has coolers that work just as good.

Yeti was simply brilliant marketing of a good product

Sometimes I go fishing in the gulf for up to 48 hours. I need to keep fish, beer, and fried chicken cold

I'm not sure people would have paid $400 for an existing brand due to perception. Part of Yeti's success is the perception that they are high quality because they only make expensive ones. Here's an analogy, you can spend the same amount on a Ford supercar as Lamborghini or Ferrari. But the perception is that the Lambo and Ferrari are higher quality and more expensive. And the reason is that there's no such thing as a Ferrari Focus.

Great analogy. This is why there was a Datsun and why there is still an Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Lincoln, Cadillac, etc. In fact out of all the auto manufacturers ever there r only two i can think of that has been able to change their company image without a rebrand and thats the two Koreans Hyundai and Kia.

Igloo is catching on, I have one of these and it's much better quality than their run of the mill and doesn't need a forklift to pickup or a finance plan to pay for it.

Uhhh.....watermelons lasting 4 days doesn't mean a whole lot.

They will do that outside an ice chest.

I just got back from camping. Some of us need more than 12 hours.

Eta...had 2 coolers with 3 bags of ice in them. The Coleman couldn't hold Yeti's jock.
