How big a blunder was it for Coleman / Igloo not to invent the Yeti style cooler?

Those companies pretty much owned the cooler market but didn't recognize that people would be willing to pay real money for a high quality ice chest.

How much profit does Yeti make? That's how big the blunder was.

I think the bigger blunder was the mugs.

Not a blunder as I don't need a $400 ice chest/hillbilly status symbol that keeps ice for a week.

Coleman has lacked ingenuity, imagination and leadership ever since Mr. Gary passed away.

Do we know if Igloo or Coleman are even doing worse than Yeti? Most people I know are more likely to purchase those products than spending $$$$.

That's a stupid response to a good post. It doesn't matter what you need. People are obviously buying them.
The big companies are often too insular and short-sighted to see trends and be nimble.
Same with the vacuum cleaner industry and Dyson.

I have an igloo that out performs a yeti.

I'm sure they are doing way better than Yeti. That's not the point.
They missed a new market.
They missed a new market.

are people not buying coleman/igloo coolers any more? maybe their biggest mistake is not including a sticker in with their cooler and selling shirts and hats.

The biggest blunder is that they didn't realize people would pay a shitload of money for a cooler, and advertise it for them..free of charge, on the back of their trucks

Some of you really need to read the OP again and maybe concentrate harder
Of course it's a blunder, they lost market share

I find it funny that this board is obsessed with talking about how rich they are but also obsessed with talking about $300 as an obscene amount of money.

When the last time you couldn't find ice within a week.

I'm not sure people would have paid $400 for an existing brand due to perception. Part of Yeti's success is the perception that they are high quality because they only make expensive ones.
Here's an analogy, you can spend the same amount on a Ford supercar as Lamborghini or Ferrari. And they may have the same horsepower and top speed, etc.
But the perception is that the Lambo and Ferrari are higher quality and more expensive. And the reason is that there's no such thing as a Ferrari Focus.
