How beneficial is taking time off from the gym?

I finished a three month workout plan last Saturday and haven't stepped foot into the gym or done any outdoor cardio since. My thought process is just give my body to rest and hopefully recharge so when I go back I'll see better results than I saw the last few weeks during the three months. I'm planning on getting back to the gym on Sunday.

Am I thinking crazy?

I don't think a week off will make you any better. Get back to the gym before you lose any of that fitness.

taking a week off actually makes you stronger going into the next week. your body can make a full recovery.

You did it. You're done. It's time to move on to a new project.

Rest and recovery is vastly underrated. When training, you're constantly breaking your body down. Breaks, even long ones, especially ones that increase motivation are not only a good idea but they are how you will see the best improvements and reach higher goals.

Nobody, NOBODY can go 100% all the time.

I only take that much time off when I go on vacation. I think it's good to switch it up sometimes though.

Some of my "rest days" are playing sports for whatever season I'm in

A week is probably as long as you want to go.

When I take a week off every four months or so, I usually come back lifting stronger.

Time off isn't bad but it's probably better mentally than physically. I work in a recovery "off" day once a week. This is light cardio and stretching or yoga. It helps elongate the muscles. So for me it's 5 hard work days, 1 recovery and 1 completely off.

Active rest is a thing. Get out and do something different. Bike, swim, hike, whatever. If you stay active you can go several weeks without working out, and lose very little if any strength. Just sitting around the house is a different story.

It's definitely beneficial. Your body is going thru some changes and stresses as you make progress in the gym. Take the week to do things like getting a bikini wax, having your hair and nails done and panty shopping so you can really impress your husband with that new figure. Maybe cook him a nice homemade meal. Wait. You are a woman, right?

Taking time off from the gym is extremely benefital in the form of 3-5 days with no activity or a deload period of 50% of max lifts. With this being said I advocate taking time off only when one begins to feel extreme lack of energy or is sick.

Still...time off allows tendons and ligaments to heal as well as muscle tissue to repair and build.
