It is the most selfish act imaginable. They choose to end their own personal suffering while simultaneously causing anguish and despair in countless others. The only ethical difficulty would be if they had a severe progressive terminal illness. That has some merit although I still disagree with suicide. Spare us all the "what about how they feel?" Your feelings are just that. Feelings. Not reality. Not facts. Just emotional underpinnings swept away with human sentiment. Have courage. Have character. Chose to live and to be a blessing to others.

You should count your blessings that you aren't dealing with a severe mental illness.

I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to conceive that their way of life, thinking, and seeing the world isn't the same as the 6 billion other people on this planet
I understand this, and pride myself on being pretty rational when it comes to other people's views and ideas. Doesn't stop me from thinking that this kid killing himself is absolutely stupid. I'm having a hard time accepting what he's done and I don't think it's ok, even though it was ok in his mind.

I just don't understand how people can not be more understanding on this, especially since everyone likely knows someone that has committed suicide.

You are a dumb frick. No clue what you're talking about

They do have a terminal illness. It's just mental

God you are the reason I hate these threads. Uneducated, uninformed fricks talking out of their arse. Typical OT

And everything you just stated is your feelings. Not fact

FACT

Exactly, it sucks, but it is what it is. If someone feels that bad about life to do that to their self, then its just fate. The sun will rise tomorrow.

it's still pretty fresh for you, so I'm not going to blame you for anything that you think or feel. it's all natural, and I imagine your mind will change with some time. just try your best to remember who he was, not what he did.

My best friend did it. Had the world by the tail. I've never understood it. Never will. Just know it sucks

Yep...My dad did it and nobody had a clue that he was "that bad" off. No warnings

You know what I find extremely helpful when I'm going through the blues? Not running. Not lifting. Not rubbing one out. Not asking for advice from the Off-Topic Lounge. Not an extra dose of Zoloft.

I drive 20 miles out to Cheddar's Casual Cafe Store #678 in Katy and order an app of onion rings and two domestic beers for about $10. The alcohol, MSG, and endorphins released from the taste extravaganza have me walking out of that fine establishment ready to take on the world. You should try it when you're having a rough patch ;)

They likely don't know anyone close to them who has

When my uncle committed suicide my first thought was what a jerk. Then I started educating myself on it. It's actually an extremely unselfish act. They think they're doing those around them a favor. And it's in no way cowardly

How many of you could defy the innate will to survive and blow your fricking brains out?

Idiots

using generalities on suicide is not ideal.

My dad thought he was burden to us. That was no where near the truth. He had a lot of built up hurt that he could never get out from Vietnam. That was his escape I guess.

could be. There are a lot of possible reasons. You can only 100% say they were suffering.

Ok a lot of them

Get over your hard on for proving me and everyone else wrong about everything. Maybe you need to chill out and learn to like yourself or something

I was just saying suicide isn't cut and dry for everyone. there are a multitude of reasons, and you can't say everyone who killed themselves was trying to spare loved ones from pain.

get over yourself, it had nothing to do with proving you or anyone else wrong. I've not done that once in this thread and never do in these threads unless someone is being a complete dick or troll.
