I have been thinking about the floods and I am wondering how things are there now. I can tell you that a ton of businesses here in Tuscaloosa have been taking up money for the relief efforts and have gotten a good response.

You guys and gals are in our thoughts and prayers.

Honestly, I think more people are concerned with firing Les Miles.

Slow. Katrina fraud has made it difficult toget much help.

That is a real shame. Do you fraud as in people filing false claims? If so then that should be prosecuted.

I think he means how FEMA just basically handed out money after Katrina to people without verifying the need.

Now....some people are having to jump through many hoops before approved for FEMA money.

You can thank the Dindu's for screwing the allocation of FEMA funds for those that legitimately need the assistance.

Personally, I'm still waiting on insurance to get their act going, Fema can't decide what I qualify for and the SBA is trudging along. I'm lining up the contractors I need, but the funds arnt bieng delivered to get the work done.

Maybe Miles is doing this to take everybody's mind off things. Taking one for the team, as it were.

Only two things could lift the spirits of Louisiana residents in the near future. Firing of Les Miles and/or beating Bama. We already know the second of the two isn't going to happen.

As usual, insurances don't want to pay. Fema is making it hard to get money. I see whole neighborhoods ending up wastelands.

Here's one example. After Katrina and even Gustav, IIRC, there were debit cards freely handed out for upwards of $2000. When your entire house is wiped out, all the little essentials of life you must immediately go replace add up quickly, particularly if you did not have/need flood insurance.

The 'I want free shite' crowd ruined this. FEMA is now bouncing people around for weeks before releasing funds.

Well, FEMA was passing out money like candy after Katrina, so it was more than fraud, a lot of it was their own doing. $1500 debit cards went out to almost anyone that asked. The BR Casino Boats had record profits immediately after.
Some people were in hotels paid by FEMA for many months. It was just a mess and they tightened up this kind of stuff since then.

My insurance sent a check woefully short, i.e.; they came up with $1.00/sq ft for flooring. Now I'm waiting outside a building waiting til they open to go get the check endorsed by my Mortgage Company because it was made out to both them and me. Denied FEMA because I have Insurance, but Insurance would not cover furniture and the total amount is not enough for repairs. I guess after I get estimates, I'll appeal.

It is devastating,I do not go through a day without a business colleague telling me how many employees flooded at their company or their relatives, friends. Driving through the neighborhoods is depressing. tens of thousands of people not living in their homes,

Sadly FEMA is slow and doing little, the government is not responding, Red Cross is raising millions but I know of no one who is receiving aide from them at this point,

If you want to give money, find a local church you can trust and give them the money directly.

This is every bit as devastating as Katrina, it just is not New Orleans, the zip codes are different and the national media has done little to bring this tragic event to light

If it were not for church groups across the local regions we would have had almost no support.

What the victims need is money to get back in their homes

FEMA is still handing money out like candy. All it takes is an empty or no bank account, shitty credicks, and a lazy arse and they will get you money in hours.
Have a job? Pay taxes? DENIED!

Don't forget that FEMA isn't allowing a lot of people to rebuild yet due to them wanting people to raise their houses. Some people, like my parents, have never flooded in 40+ years of living in their house and FEMA won't let them rebuild. We have the house gutted and almost all moisture levels are below the limit, but we can't do anything. Keep in mind, this flood was well beyond 1,000 year flood elevations (somewhere between 10,000 and 100,000 year), but FEMA is calling it a 1,000 year flood.
