I've been hired and will be moving to Houston this summer. I'll be living in the Upper Kirby area. Can anyone provide me with a little insight into the UK area?

TIA and sorry if this should be on the Travel Board

Go grocery shopping at Central Market.

Go to the farmers market at Richmond and Eastside.

Eat at Local Foods, Torchy's, Pondicheri, Kata Robata, Luna Pizzeria, Tacos Tierra Caliente, House of Pies, Common Bond, Fat Bao, El Tiempo, and State of Grace.

Get your suits from Suit Supply. Go to Stag Provisions for man/hipster shite.

Drink at McGonigels, Mugsy's, Upstairs at Mezzanine, Davenport, West Alabama Ice House.

Go to Midtown if you're young and want the party/hookup scene.

Eddie V's, Del Frisco's, and Cru for Cougars/Sugar Momma's

That's all I've got...

Good area. Kept up nice, lots of local flavor, and bordered by a lot of old money.

I don't get the Tochys love. It is ok but not all that it's made out to be.

Depending how old you are, the fun places to party in the area are Kirby ice house and the owl. I used to live down there a couple years ago and loved it. Close to a lot of good food too.

What is it made out to be?

When it opened here I was told it was a really good, slightly different take on street tacos and that's exactly what it is.

Uchi just opened up on Westheimer. Great food and OT 10s abound.

Chosen pretty much hit everything

I've lived here going on 6 years now. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

What building are you going to be living in?

Moved to Rice Village last August. UK is close by and a great area. Plenty of good restaurants and bars in the area. Downtown is also a 10 minute commute.

If I were single and 30 I would love to live there.

It's where my old (43) arse likes to go when I want to feel 28 again.

If you are moving from someplace shitty in Louisiana you may lose your mind and go broke.

I knew you lived around there and I was going to leave this to you, but I got bored while watching the lightning last night.

I wonder if Torchy's is going to be open for lunch? I'm jonesin for it now thanks to this thread.
