House by mine just burned down

Sad. I heard a bunch of sirens but didn't really think much of it but walked into the kitchen and there were firetrucks all outside my window. I walked outside and a house near mine was up in flames. I'm in the Garden District over by Forsythe Park for you Monroe folk.
The family I'm assuming made it out, they were standing by a truck and had a lot of people hugging and consoling them. Everything smells like smoke. Very sad situation, horrible Christmas Eve for that family.

Here's a link to the local TV station that has something on it. It doesn't say much but they had the cameras set up and the reporter out so I'm assuming it will be updated after while with more info.
Saw someone on a gurney in an ambulance, but they didn't take him to the hospital so not sure what was happening there. It looked like a fire fighter but i could be wrong.

How many more people have to die in the name of lights?

Unofficial OT response:
So you just watched from your house?
I'm sure they're sorry to inconvenience you.
They will be overwhelmed with how many people come to their aid and help them.

That's just awful. Prayers sent. Hopefully everyone is ok and the Red Cross is there to help.

A house burnt down next door to you and you didn't notice?

Prayers up for them.

Man, I dated a girl that lived on Milton back in HS. Hate to hear something like that any time, much less on Christmas eve. Hopefully everyone made it out alright. Prayers for the family involved. Something happening in/to your home is absolutely earth shattering.

To be fair it's not right right next door, but more caddy corner to me. I noticed the sirens but just didn't really think much of it, I was on the phone and wasn't until I walked into the kitchen and saw all of the lights that I realized something was up right by me.
And there was a little girl running around (12 maybe?) handing out water to the fire fighters and paramedics, so cudos to her for her thoughtfulness.

Luckily we have had some rain and everything is wet or may have jumped to other houses as close as things are around there.

Yeah I'm not sure how it didn't to be honest. The flames were huge and the house next door bumps right up next to it.

Said he heard sirens, but didn't pay attention to them.
After all, this is NOLA , sirens are probably an hourly occurrence.

Obama just issued a statement: he said it's time to ban lights and trees, Christmas, and Christians. National security and whatnot.
