I've met him. He is a hot shot driver. Dude loves him some Toyota.
he practically lived in his last Tundra and then they gave him a free one. I say he's well justified in loving Toyota.

I'm sure you could keep most cars running that long if you have the car serviced at a dealership once every 3.5 weeks.

For oil changes? And all original? And a million miles in 8+ years? Nah.

We had a dodge fleet that never made it to 75k without some sort of power train replacement

That was one hell of a well put together engine.

. Thanks, in part, to 117 dealership visits, Sheppard was able to keep the original engine, transmission and paint job intact despite averaging 125,000 miles per year.

Regular business trips to North Dakota, Wyoming and Virginia helped him rack up miles.

As if simply reaching 1 million miles didn't provide Toyota with enough good press, Sheppard had this to say about his 15th Tundra:

“I believed [reaching a million miles] wouldn’t be a problem,” Sheppard told Toyota's press team. “These trucks are safe and dependable. I think, if you see a Toyota on the side of the road, it might be a scam because they just don’t break down very often.”

Good news for him. He won't be putting many miles on his new truck.

It's why they haven't changed them even though they aren't a fuel efficient as their competitors. Their drivetrain is bulletproof

That comes out to 125,000 miles per year, or driving nearly 5 hours every day for seven years at 70mph. Something doesn't seem legit

One of the reasons you are saving money, if use quality parts the price becomes near/equal.

Article said he averaged 125,000 miles per year. That's a lot of frequent oil changes.

...to understand why planned obsolescence isn't succeeding at the Tundra plant.

The Tundra has only been available for about 15 or 16 yrs. I don't believe he has had 15 of them.

As for going exclusively to the dealership, he probably got screwed for the first few visits, but in college we used to take care of our regulars. Eventually they would get everything at cost plus 10%. Tires at cost plus 5 bucks.

As much free press as the brand was getting when he was in their dealership, it's worth it.

Yea... there is no way they were messing him over as a regular wit that amount of volume

Don't buy a VW if you feel that way. I think that shite goes up every time I bring my car in.

Reminds me of that episode of Married with Children

quote:

When Al is forced to sell the Dodge, an auto executive offers him a brand-new Viper in exchange for filming his old car hitting the million mile mark.
