Taking the family to Washington, D.C. for the first time at the end of the summer. Looking for hotels with the best view/location (up to around $400/night range). Based on my limited research, I'm looking at The Hay Adams and The Willard Intercontinental so far. Anyone have recommendations?

Sofitel right by there was great and the price was good. Metro is right around the corner.

Le Méridien Arlington

I work across the street and live within walking distance. If your budget is up to $400/night you won't be disappointed.

Within walking distance of a big subway hub, btw. You're actually closer to most of the monuments than Willard and Hay. Plus the restaurants are better in Arlington IMHO.

Any of the Kimpton hotels should do you well.

Just got back last week from an extended weekend vacation. We stayed at The Sofitel. Great hotel that is in an ideal location. 1 block away from the White House, walking distance to the national mall, etc. The staff was excellent. Left my phone in the hotel room and they had it back to me the next day. If cost is an issue, it was a great price too

Arlington is more of a 20's-30's type place though.

Their service was on point. Turn down service was nice as well. Make a reservation at Minibar by Jose Andres. It will cost you a pretty penny but it is an experience. For something a little more casual hit Founding Farmers.

POV Bar on the top floor of the Washington Hotel was a great view. Oyamel is a unique Mexican restaurant and Coco Sala was a great brunch place
