Holding Seats for Graduation: Right or Wrong?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves...a person placing an item on each of 5 or 6 seats to save for family members who are not even in the arena yet. Shouldn't it be first come-first serve, so to speak?

Well they were there first. Find another seat.

The lowest of the low in a society pull this move.

Right if it’s a fat nast trashy family. If the family is nice and good looking then I have no problem with it.

There's a limit. Saving 2 or 3 is fine.
Sending an infiltrator in to save 4 and over is a bit ridiculous.

I claim huge areas on the neutral ground for parades. Why should I act differently when it comes to saving seats for graduations?

Read my post..one person was there, holding 5 seats. The other 5 were not even in the arena yet.

To my surprise, it doesn’t bother me when people hold seats at graduations, but I do believe “first come-first serve” is the correct and courteous thing to do.

Depends on how big and how crowded the venue is.

So? Were those the last 5 seats in the place?

I make a practice of sitting in somebody's saved seats and daring them to challenge me.

How about when they're one short, and they look at you and your group of 2 others and ask you to move???

Depends.
Are we talking about people trying to save a row of seats 2 minutes before the ceremony is set to begin and there's more people looking for seating than there are empty seats?
Or we talking about a group saving a couple seats 30-40 minutes early while the arena is still 2/3 empty?

Normally I'd say who gives a shite, but in the cases of the ULM graduation last week, where the capacity was expected to be exceeded by at least 800, it's a pretty shitty move.

That's different. That's one group asking politely and the other group being kind and courteous.
As far as someone holding seats? If the place is 2/3 empty and we come in to sit and someone politely asks if we can leave 3 or 4 seats for their family who's right behind them, sure, we'll move down a couple of seats.
If the place is nearly full, sorry, I'm sitting.
If the request isn't pleasant, not only am I sitting, but frick you, I'm sitting right where you don't want me to.

Why? It's first come first serve and someone was there first to save seats.

I guess I should have been more clear, it's one person getting there to save 5 or 6 seats, she realizes she's one short and asks your entire group, who is already there, to move

Oh. Nah. If 5 people walk in and there are 4 seats in a row and an open seat on the other side of my people AND the place is getting pretty full, then sure, I don't mind moving down one. If I'm seated and the place is empty or there's just one person trying to make room, then probably not.
Whether or not I'm already seated, how full the place is, and the politeness of the request are all very important in deciding "Sure" or "frick off".

I just print out "reserved" on a couple of pieces of paper and tape them on the seats at each end of the row.
