re: Help with sports management degree

I'm keeping my mouth shut. I do have a lawyer friend who is a sports agent, and a former HS player who never went to college who is a sports agent.

The lawyer is ok but doesn't have as many players. The other guy is rolling!

.... I'm just sayin.

What do you do exactly and how did you get a job offshore with that kind of degree?

You don't need a degree to work offshore.

Not to be a roughneck but I wondered if they had him doing something else because he does have a degree. Something above roughnecked but maybe not quite as fancy as someone with a petroleum engineering masters.

re: Help with sports management degree
Some people have mentioned busting your arse...

Here's an idea of what that would entail....

I assume you're in the Atlanta area, find an organization similar to this for Atlanta (LINK / - This ones in New Orleans obviously), volunteer for everything you can (SEC Championship, golf tourneys, Peach Bowl, etc.) They're ALWAYS looking for volunteers for big events. Collect business cards and get to know the people who you want to have jobs similar to theirs and connect with them on LinkedIn.

Then continue busting your arse helping out whenever they need somebody or something. Let them know you're interested in pursuing a career in that field and keep at it...

re: Help with sports management degree
I don't want to get into too many details because a lot of the people post here amd probably dont want their info posted but my supervisor at my internship and I became good friends and he took a job with a professional team and asked if he wanted me to get him his job. Wasn't an official job offer I guess but he could have made it happen

To the other poster who asked what MBA program, southeastern, you can do it in a year if you have all the business pre reqs

It's not really a community college. I think it's actually the biggest feeder school into UGA for people to get their core done and then transfer. I'm pretty sure the 4 year degrees they offer are like elementary education, computer science. Things I really don't want to do. The only reason I'm going here is because of Hope scholarship. I'm pretty much getting my core done for free. I'm just trying to figure out what would be a good next step to take.

So you goto Gainesville state or GCSU?

Look into pipeline controlling or something dealing with SCADA systems.

My company is hiring IField support guys whose job is to basically monitor SCADA screens all day/night for pipelines across the country, some of it dealing with offshore production.

Kind of similar to a pipeline controller, but less stress I suppose. 35-40 bucks an hour depending on experience/education + OT and shift differentials make the job attractive for someone with a bull shite degree looking to make a career with a fantastic company.

re: Help with sports management degree
It really comes down to networking and who you know in the business. I'm getting my bachelor's in Business and have already had one internship with Marketing/Game Operations. I've had about three calls so far on three different internships selected as a finalist for positions but one I had to turn down due to only having one week of notice before having to move to Houston for the position and the other two I didn't receive them.

Regardless I've chalked it up as knowing that my previous internship experience certainly cannot hurt and I'm hoping if I find one more that it will help out job chances come a few years.

I've quickly discovered that they only hire people with prior experience.

I found that out too. I busted my arse for 8 months trying to find something. Everything I looked at required experience...

Worked out over time. Id rather be out here making the money im making and be off 6 months a year.
