Hello good people of the OT,

I'm planning a golf trip to the Phoenix area in late August, and would like some suggestions on what to do. I have never been out there, so I don't know much about the area. It will be 4 guys late mid-late 20's, we will probable plan on going out 2 nights and maybe a nice dinner the other night. Any and all advice is welcomed.

I would play We-Ko-Pa Saguro instead of TPC.

Go visit 480 if he's around. Scottsdale was a cool place to go out (went on a family vacation to Sedona a few Mays ago and stayed in scottsdale for a night), plenty of happy hour places, there was a comedy club that was pretty good.

ETA: Old Town Scottsdale was the great area

If you're all in pretty good shape, climb Camelback Mountain. You will see some world class arse on that mountain.

Edit: Late August - Camelback may not be exactly fun to climb at that time if you're not in really good shape.

It was the biggest collection I've seen in one spot at one time ever. Chock full of ASU & Cal sorostitutes and fitness models wearing next to nothing.

What hotel are you planning on staying? The W Scottsdale is a cool spot and directly across the street from Old Town Scottsdale.. I've stayed there several times and it has always been a good time. The Phoenician golf resort is a couple miles up the road and also has some good golf and is usually reasonably priced. Morning hike up Camelback is also a good option. All kinds of trim. Mill St. is right off of the campus of ASU in Tempe, more of a college scene, but definitely fun for one night.

I think we are getting a house to stay at, but will keep that in mind.

If we stay in Scottsdale, is there any reason to go to Phoenix? As far as nightlife goes, which is better?

I go to Scottsdale every year with 20 guys and make a another trip with a smaller group every other year.

Based on your age look at staying in Old Scottsdale area. Tons of bars and a few good restaurants. There are hookers trolling so beware. The pool parties at the W are awesome.

Golf - skip TPC unless you just have your heart set on it. Not worth the money compared to other courses. Look at We-Ko-Pa first, then Greyhawk or Troon North (all have two courses). SunRidge Canyon is fun but was not it great condition last time a played there 2 years ago. Fun course and last six holes are brutal. If you can pull some strings (your club Pro if you have one) go play Desert Mountain (six courses up there).

Two nights are not enough, just saying. You are going to have to play in the morning due to the heat. It will beat you down.

That was another question...

Is the heat worse than south la? I figured it will be hot as frick, but not near as bad as a round back home. This is just the best time to make it all happen.

You may notice it a bit less due to less humidity, but hot is still hot, no matter how you slice it. Just remember to stay hydrated (not just with alcohol) even if you don't feel like you actually need it.
