I'm leaning towards saying no and just giving the nanny a bit of a bump in pay to compensate
For $600/month you could pay for a good licensed daycare. Not sure why you feel obligated to pay your nanny more.

I like my daughter being at home right now
once she gets a bit older, we will probably put her in more of a school type daycare, but right now, at 11 months, I feel more comfortable with her being at home

Good idea. my wife is a stay at home mom now watching our 13 month old. keep her at home as long as you can. daycares are germ havens. my daughter hasnt been sick since shes been born

What high school did you go to?

And that sucks for her later because she has no immunity built up by being sheltered. When she does start school she will get sick all the time. Exposure to germs is good as long as everyone is vaccinated.

You're just delaying the inevitable. First exposure to other groups of kids (perhaps kindergarten in your scenario) she will get sick anyway.

She does have an older brother and sister that are in elementary so its not like we live in some kind of sterile enviroment...and Id rather treat a sick 5 year old than a sick 1 year old

Salmon, you are ordinarily a pretty smart guy so I can only assume you are over-running to the point of oxygen depravation.
This is a bad idea on many levels.

I know it is...
I just hate giving people bad news. I'm sure for the nanny, she is thinking how great this new extra income would be...
I'm too nice IRL

The extra money you spend a month on the nanny is worth it to avoid an inevitable lawsuit
BS...why should he pay the nanny extra just to avoid a lawsuit in his own house.
I would tell her no....way too much liability. Its gonna strain the friendship some but explain your reasons and hopefully she reasonable.

The 3rd child is also eating your groceries...another expense I assume right?????....thatz a nogo!!!!
Posted on 4/10/14 at 2:37 pm to RedTigerRulz
why do you people keep thinking I would provide the groceries?
our nanny brings her daughter everyday and always brings her own food

I understand.
Just tell her the liability (potential) is too great.
That's a true statement.
The real concern would be one person watching three toddlers in a home setting. Bad stuff happens quick.

Why can't she keep all the kids where she lives?
Posted on 4/10/14 at 2:42 pm to Salmon
You better have a great homeowners policy. Just FYI.

1) I like my daughter at our house
2) She lives about 25 minutes away
3) Our house is in a better neighborhood with more parks nearby

Ok. Then tell her no to the extra kid. You either let her watch all 3 kids at her house so she can make extra money or keep it the way it's been.
You said it is only during the summer. You wouldn't let her do a couple months at her house?

I really, really do not want to drive 25-30 minutes completely out of the way everyday
one of the stipulations of our deal was that she would always come to our house, so I would really cut her pay, probably in half if I had to drive the 30 minutes to her house everyday
