Turning in front of a bike a few hundred feet away when you have no idea he's going 100 is not the same.

EXACTLY. at 150ft a sec (more or less) at 5-6 seconds away, thats nearly 1000 feet away. not sure how long it takes to slow down & turn, but its probably 5-10 seconds.

at 10 seconds, the driver of the car wouldn't even see the guy 2000 feet away.

at 5 seconds he probably wouldn't see more than a black dot.

at 2 seconds, the fricker was still nearly 300 feet away.

no way the driver was expecting a fricking bulletrain coming at him when he turned. he's expecting cars going maybe 40mph or whatever teh limit is.

That doesn't remove fault from the driver not paying attention.

People pull out in front of cars all the time. If the idiot wasn't going 100 mph, he wouldn't be dead.

I had a car pull out in front of me just a few weeks ago so close that he had to slam on his brakes and stop half way across the right hand lane. And I still could have easily kicked his front corner as I swerved around him. Thankfully nothing was in the left hand lane. And for the record, I was doing like 50mph when this happened and it was a bright sunny day and a straight road.

And yet bikers obeying the law still get killed by people not paying attention. How does that happen if all he had to do was slow down?

The problem is people look and see the bike (in this case) is far enough away to make the turn, but don't look long enough to get an idea of how fast they're going.

This guy on the bike was just going way too fast to avoid the wreck.

I'm sorry, I just cant find it in me to assign any guilt to the car driver. Sure, you're always supposed to yield, so technically he failed to do that. But speed limits serve several purposes.

You go 100 MPH you are completely fricking up the physical assumptions every driver is required to make in order to operate these substantial machines. It's incredibly selfish and quite frankly it should be considered a total-fault factor

is that what he thought? or was he just going over the speed limit. i have gone that fast before, and you probably think i deserve to die since i think i am above the law.

I believe that everywhere in the UK has speed limits.

step one: sell that 'its only a matter of time' coffin you call a bike and buy a vehicle with a metal cage, air bags and 4 wheels.

step two: there is no step two.

Then preaching to us car/truck drivers to look out for idiots on bikes going 40 over the speed limit.

So, you only look for cycles doing the speed limit? You ignore those that are going over the speed limit?

As a driver you are supposed to look out for everything on the road. If a plane is landing on the road, you should be on the look out for it and do all you can to avoid a collision.
