I'd focus on that instead of the fact that you're ignorant of the law too.

Here's my problem with motorcycles - it is natural for the human brain to not process them as vehicles on the road - more like bicycles or pedestrians - on the interstate, everything is fine - either I'm passing the bike(s) or it (they) is passing me - I concentrate to make sure I don't lose them in the blind spots and everything is fine.

It is the intersectional stuff that I have problems with - a few months ago, I turned left in front of a bike - it was early morning, we both had lights on - we both had the green, but I didn't have the arrow.

Now, he was going slow and I was going slow - he didn't have to lay the bike down or anything like that, but I would have given a car the right-of-way (I believe) - I actually didn't realize what I had done until it was over.

But, I do actively concentrate when I realize a bike is in the area - for this very reason.

Then you're a moron. You have to pay attention when turning.

How fast would the motorcycle have to be going to not be the other driver's fault 120? 150?

That still doesn't absolve the driver of not seeing the bike. It did not appear that the sight lines were obstructed, so there really is no excuse other than not paying attention.

This is not me absolving the rider of his terrible decision to go that fast, before yall accuse me of that.

People pull out in front of cars all the time. If the idiot wasn't going 100 mph, he wouldn't be dead.

As fast as light. Only then would the driver be exonerated because he truly wouldn't have seen the bike.

Never, you should always pay attention before you cross a lane of traffic IMO.

bullshite.

go outside right now (i'll wait).

have a friend with a bike go up the road 300 feet.

then decide if you think that object is far enough away that you can make a quick turn.

short story: asshat wasnt going 100 MPH down the road and he has time to react to the car turning.

second, going half that speed means he would have only been maybe 150 feet away and the driver would never have turned in front of him at that distance.

Irrelevant.

So I guess all the bikes that get killed from people pulling out when they aren't speeding just don't count for that...

Gotta love the mom's comment telling car drivers to please slow down. WTF? Motorcycles are a lot smaller than cars. They are physically more difficult to see. They offer virtually no protection in the event of an accident....But, car drivers need to slow down. Yeh, we should also probably all wear bullet proof vests so that criminals will have less chance of killing us with a gun. Maybe we should limit the height of buildings and bridges so that dumbass who fall off of them won't die.

Mom goes on to say "I know he was going fast, but he loved speed..." I guess that makes it alright then, right? Not his fault because he just loved going fast.

I see crap like this guy almost everyday going to and from work. Cyclists weaving between traffic, even cars side by side and on the shoulder. Then when one dies, there will be a group of idiots out there putting flowers and crosses out and begging people to watch out for motorcycles...What they should be saying is watch out for fricking idiots who happen to drive motorcycles. And no, I am not saying all who ride them are idiots, but a small percentage are and I don't feel sorry for what happens to them.

We're just not going to see eye to eye here. I always err on the side of caution when crossing traffic. I'd have handled it just fine.

It was probably more like the driver saw the bike, noticed he was way off in the distance, and felt he had the space and time to make the turn. I doubt the fact that the biker was going 100 mph was even possible for the driver to know. It's hard to judge speed if they are coming straight at you.

The driver could have acted more defensively and waited, which is why the biker doesn't get 100% of the blame. But he certainly gets most of it.

Well that's completely different. A bike going the speed limit would be much closer to the car turning in front of him.

Turning in front of a bike a few hundred feet away when you have no idea he's going 100 is not the same.

I completely agree. And I've said nothing to the contrary (second sentence not specifically for you).

Who's to say the person wouldn't have turned in front of the biker regardless? Obviously it happens. So you can't say if he'd have gone slower this wouldn't have happened.
