Went to Jackson last year for a wedding, stayed at some hotel downtown. Literally like a ghost town, didn't see and resturants, bars, or even people walking around. It was scary, like a zombie movie.

Yeah, no one really goes down there unless there is some function or whatever.

Lots of people go out to the Renaissance or something, but that's mostly just shopping and places to eat.

Is live music all you're looking for? Because the cocktail bar in Fondren, Apothecary, is legit.

Kind of hipster-ish, but that's Fondren for ya

Only area of Jackson I am able to tolerate. Not sure what that says about me But so much of the rest of the city is terrible.

For food, I really enjoyed Saltine and Walker's Drive-In.
Walker's had much nicer food than I expected. And a cool atmosphere. Saltine just had fantastic pork belly
Oh, and Coater seems to really enjoy County Seat. I follow their Insta, and it looks good.

I'm pretty sure we will hit up both of those spots for Friday/Saturday evenings.

My work schedule is from 6am to around 1pm Sat/Sun so I was looking to fill the gaps. We decided to head in a day early to enjoy a full day in the area since this is our first time in Jackson.

Yeah, there are some good places. Fondren is kind of cool because the restaurants and bars are in walking distance, but there just isn't a lot.

If you go out in Jackson, make sure you have a good spare tire and a weapon for self defense.

He can drive to the Madison-Ridgeland area, but again there just isn't a lot of "going out" places there.

He'll be driving back to Pearl, which is in Rankin County. Watch out for da popo

Both of what spots? Fondren is the area of town. Apothecary is the name of the bar.

Anyway, it is a speakeasy in the back of Brent's. You'll have to walk through a (probably closed) soda shop to the back to get to this bar. Don't think you're in the wrong place.

I think the other "spot" besides apothecary was Fondren Public

Yikes. My best friend that I visit lives in Terry (in Hinds County).. not that this means a single thing to me. But I do know that's where she lives.

I can't for the life of me remember where her boyfriend and his friends took us. The bar had decent beer.. was dark.. had live music.. and I remember we drank upstairs (I guess it was two-story). I have asked her a bunch of times to take me to Bulldog, but she says the Bulldog in Jackson is nothing like ours.

Then we went to some "club" that had just opened that weekend, and it was seemingly in some warehouse in the middle of freaking nowhere. It was hands down the worst "dance club" I've ever been to.

I wish she'd answer my text asking what these places were.

I haven't been in some time but it's pretty similar to the BR location IMO.

I just looked at the beer menu. Yikes.

Mikel: I think decor is the same, but she said the atmosphere isn't the same as far as attracting big crowds like ours does. Granted, she runs with a younger crowd.. but she said she's never been because she doesn't know anyone who goes there.

Yep. Been to places like that. My wife would drag me to these warehouses in the ghetto in Jackson for parties and holy shite it was bad.

Not a lot of people go there. The area kind of sucks.

That's true. That area used to be cool in the early 90s(My old HS gf took me to visit grandparents in that area often). Rented movies at the old Blockbuster, went to the Mall, etc.

But fast forward to now. That Bulldog Crowd was older(my age) and smaller. So I guess it was like our Bulldog on a Tuesday Happy hour.
We were there on a Saturday early evening.

Underground 119 IMO

I went there about a month ago and they said they were closing after that night. Not sure if it was temporary or not, or how long if it is temporary.

ETA: They don't expect to open again until March, so don't try 119.

Several years ago the bulldog in jackson was the place to go. The last few times i've been there over the last 5 years it was empty and dead

I was there for work last week. The locals we were working with suggested Johnny T's for the food but more for the live entertainment. My boss and I had to work and eat later but everyone that went seemed to enjoy themselves.

Scrolled through the thread and I'm dissapointed no one mentioned Danny's yet.
