Can any Jackson based OTers point a guy towards a good bar/live music venue?

You are pretty SOL on that front. Lived in the Jackson area for 2 years if you wanted decent (using that word very loosely) you had to go to Vicksburg to one of the casinos. Jackson sucks in the live music department and night life in general, but if you are stuck in Jackson I hope this helps.

BTW Jackson is getting even more hood than it was when I lived there 18months ago so be careful it is worse than New Orleans.

Lots of nice places around the Rez area. Shuckers oyster bar is a bit country but a good time can be had there. As far as the trails and such, the Natchez Trace offers a lot of that and it's not a bad drive.

The bar I was trying to think of was Georgestreet, and the club was 110.

Why are you staying in Pearl??? Other than the outlets...

Drago's is on County Line Road (Exit 103 on I-55)...go up to Exit 105 and Renaissance has several restaurants, go up the parkway a bit and there are a few places up by where I live...

Soulshine Pizza on Highland Colony has live music at the weekend...

Amerigo's has good Italian food, Table 100 is also a great suggestion for food.

I'm not sure what you're style is, but if Hal and Mal's has a good band they can be fun.

Fondren public is a cool hangout spot but kind of hipsterish/uppity.

Shuckers over by the Reservoir is my personal favorite bar...it's big, always has a couple different bands and a good mixture of people. Not trashy, not uppity, just normal.

If you want to get down and dirty go to F Jones or Pops Saloon...they both stay open till about 6 am and is full of rednecks, cowboys, bikers, thugs, and strippers after they get off of work at Babes and Dannys, and plenty of other wonderful people of Jackson.
