re: Having the "Money Talk" with the SO before marriage

Roll your eyes all you want, do you honestly not care how much money your wife burns through? You must just be rolling in money.

I have a hard time believing my SO can hide this many purchases from me if we are dating without me realizing, unless she spent that amount of money before they were together.

We have joint accounts.

I knew the wife had substantial student debt going in, so no surprise there.

Works well for us, but we are OT poor so not much to monitor.

individual accounts for your own money.

paychecks go into individual accounts.

each person contributes equally to the joint account every pay day

works perfectly

not if there's only one income

What is the point if all this? Do you just not trust your SO enough to have ind account?

both run a credit check on each other first...you should be in the same range or the marriage won't work

I like this thread. I'm not married, but I've always wondered about this.

I just tell her the truth, as long as her dad keeps up the payments I let her stay around.

Actions speak louder than words. When my wife and I were engaged she had a bad day and went shopping. I lost it and made her bring everything back, then consoled her on her bad day. She has had her moments since but I give her a hard time each time and the occurrences have gotten fewer and farther between.

My wife and I talk with each other before we spend $200 + on a single purchase. Except when I get a hooker or three.

I am 6 years older that her and she is still in college. I know. She has no credit so this makes no sense what so ever.

I'm obsessed with checking our joint account. When it comes to investments and such I wouldn't even know where to look. Need to get in the know about that.

for some. Not for others.

We share all of our finances, and it works for us. But I make 75% of the income in the relationship. So I pay for everything. And I can buy whatever I want since I make all the cash. Generally we discuss it first tho.

Don't get married if you think you need to have a "money talk".
When I posted this, I was thinking along the lines that the OP didn't trust his SO with money or maybe she had bad spending habits. I didn't read the OP very well. Sorry for the confusion.
