That's what kept me going. In spite of it all, you never stop being a parent. Professional literature suggests that suicide generally impacts three succeeding generations.

That said, some do it anyway because they think it will finally end the nightmare. Some get so caught up into it that when they get too close to it, it seems to have the same allure of sex. Freud maintained that humans had two major drives: Eros (love/sex) and Thantos (death). After many years of study as well as numerous years of practice, I have concluded that might have been one point the old boy knew what he was talking about.

Mine died over a year ago and I haven't been able to bring myself to get another. I'm finally ready for one.

And your son would probably enjoy it more than you. Dogs can be a little boys best friend. If you can, consider getting one. It will help both of you. They're always at the door happy to see you when you get home.

Yeah last time I tried to adopt a dog that thing became my personal lap dog. I had to beg my son to play with it so I could get a moment's peace

Yep. I should be dead. I was lucky to have a lot of people who cared about me. I'm sure I could go lower if I went back to my old ways.

That's why I like big dogs. Get a mid sized dog...not a little dog. If he is a teenager, it will be his best friend.

I haven't hit rock bottom because I have will power. Sounds like you have some character issues.

I don't think you have lived enough life yet. Depression can be self-destructive and for many, it is a life long thing to be managed.

Then again, I was at the height of everything and everything came crashing down when my ex left. It was like one domino going down after another. Sometimes, we spend our time in hell contemplating and reflecting. That's how it has worked for me. Little by little I am redefining my life to something I am happier with.

Having gone through all of that, I will never make fun of or put down someone who is in the crapper emotionally. After having been there, I can understand at least some of their pain.

I always like the saying that "religion is for those who are scared of going to hell, while spirituality is for those who have already visited the place."

I live in an apt. But will be moving to a apt/house thing in NO and it has a yard. So I guess a puppy would be ok in the meantime

Part of my work is as a licensed psychotherapist. I didn't think it could or would happen to me. It did, and I had to turn to someone else to guide me out. When it's you, you forget about all the training, because now it's your life. I will say that what I learned from the experience has given me more insight to help others, so that's a good thing. There are still bad days, and there will be. You simply have a fallback plan for those bad days. Funny assed thing, going through a major situational depression actually allowed me to learn a lot about myself as well as my motivations for things I did. I started learning to do things I wanted to do instead of living up to the expectations of others.

I might add, my dog Rylie needs a prayer or two tonight. Something happened to her over the past 36 hours that almost had me believing that she was trying to die (she's nine years old - part Dalmatian, dachshund, and bull terrier). She quit eating and drinking and got lethargic. She even quit barking at others. I took her to the vet today. She is staying over night for some additional tests. Oddly enough, there are days that I feel that dog is all I have left.

Bro, you need to watch the movie Friday....when pops told Craig, " you win some and you will lose some, but you live you live to fight another day"...
