Have you ever had an employee or coworker die on the job?

Did you get sued or investigated or anything?

It has happened 2 or 3 times to my dad and grandfather. I don't think the law got involved, but it all happened before i was born so i don't really know.

One of my cousin's coworkers just got hit by a sleeping driver doing roadside construction. that's what gave me the idea for the thread.

A few months ago our ticket sales manager died in our marketing department. No fuss or anything just fell down and died. He apparently had AIDS and had been going through treatment for the last few years.

The really fricked up thing is how my company tried to hide it all. Didn't even acknowledge his death until 2 weeks later even though they black bagged him on site.

Wtf. I'd get out of that place ASAP. Talk about some bastards there. I dont care how "lowly" of an employee they were. There may be some legal ramifications there...I have no idea.

That's terrible.

And I haven't had that happen yet, but I've only been out of college for about a year and a half.

I've been trying to, but for many more reasons.

It's crazy because he was really well liked. I don't think he ever caused problems. Just a young guy that fricked up and was trying to get by.

Had a worker in from another office assisting on a project. Was suppose to leave corporate apartment on a Friday and show up Monday at his home office, but didn't. I got a call explaining that, so I grabbed one of my employees accompany me to the corporate apartment and found him dead on the floor.

He had been admitted 2 weeks earlier for a blood clot and was smoking/drinking 1 day out of a 4 day ICU stay. I was shocked but wasn't. Nice guy though so it was still awful.

CO worker hung himself in his closet the night before our weekly staff meeting . President announced it the next day to the entire staff .. Everyone was blind sided . Very unprofessional the way it was handled IMO

Damn, sorry you had to experience that. I can't even imagine, but yeah that's pretty dumb on his part, still terrible that his health had deteriorated so far to that point.

Is there a perfect way to handle such a situation?

I had a sales rep that didn't show up for work. Got a call later that day he was dead. He was about 45 years old at the time, and I later learned that he had a heroin overdose. I honestly had no idea he was an addict--he masked it well. He did his job well while at work.

I later found out he spent half his life fighting his "demons". He was a nice fella.

They actually never did.

There was a sorry for your loss card passed around for the dudes mom 2 weeks after he died, but that wasn't done from the company. It was from an intern in HR who thought what was happening was atrocious.

The company has still not actually said or done anything about it except to say that he didn't die on company property, which is a lie. His picture is still on our who's who board and in a load of our programs and directories.

I remember talking to our security guard after finding out what happened and he told me that the very next day the marketing people started painting all the walls in the offices. No one ever said Andy's name or talked about what happened the day before. Just painted the walls.

Not die but had a few seriously injured when working on the pipeline. Now that I'm a supervisor at a steel foundry, one of my biggest fears is having an employee get burned to death on my shift

I watched a guy have a heart attack. I ran to get the defribulator. When I got back, he was not breathing. I've never seen someone so blue before. Another employee set up the defribulator while i waved down the ambulance. When I left, i was positive he was dead. When I showed the emt into the room, guy was alert sitting up. Two zaps with the AED and he came back. Closest I've come to watching someone die. I still think he was dead for a little while. Dude wasn't breathing for like 5 minutes (felt like a lot longer).

At the last company I worked for one of the guys went to the office one Saturday night after bar hopping. Went in and got things set up for Monday, went upstairs, grabbed a beer from the fridge, went to the company owners office, took a cigar and a pistol from the bosses desk. He Sat down at a desk, drank the beer, smoked the cigar and then shot himself.

His dad who also worked for the company found him Sunday morning.

Very weird scene on Monday when we all showed up for work. Most called it a day and went home after the boss told us what went down.

A driver when I was managing owner operators in Houston a few years ago. The wreck was coming off our yard in El Paso so I didn't get to see the truck until it was towed back to our yard in Katy, TX. The FD said they "cleaned" the inside but they had done a poor job when I climbed on the passenger side to look in and assess the interior cab damage. Everything was just coated in brown day old coagulated blood, torn clothes, and left over human matter. shite was horrible.

He was actually one of my favorite drivers, so much so that a few months after learning the computer software, I would go in and steal long loads assigned to other trucks for him. Nobody would ever know until the other driver realized the trailer he was picking up was gone and by then, my guy was 500 miles down the road. Some of those truck drivers don't get near the respect they deserve.

Steam or just high PSI? Either one is pretty much a death sentence.

Local hs chemistry teacher had a heart attack at school between classes. He was 400 pounds but well liked. Sad

Not at work but work related. A dude I worked with took some time off work because of his uncle committing suicide. I didn't see him fornseveral days after returning. When I finally did see him again, I asked him how his day was going and he went on a giant monologue about being forced to clean up the brains in the back seat and he went on and on about the color.
