Funnel everything into one corner...keep one outside row/column full with four tiles at all times, only use three directions.
For example: I kept the largest tile in the bottom right hand corner, always with four tiles in the bottom row, and only "moved" left/right/down.

Winner winner, chicken dinner!
FU OP for wasting so much of my time, I had the 1024 and a 512 tile and lost about 5 times before finally getting it. I kept going and ended up with a final score of 27,092, for those in the thread that think the point is to get a high score.

I kept my biggest tile bottom right with the right column full and tried to line up the right column with the next lowest tile so that once I had all of the tiles I needed it was a simple progression.
Any double winners? I was half way there with a 2048 and a 1024 tile at the same time.

Keep your biggest tile in a corner at all costs. A swipe to left and you risk some 2 being stuck in the bullshite in the bottom right.
You really should focus on maintaining your biggest tile in the corner of your choice, and have sequentially smaller pieces in that column ready to merge into it as they grow. You should have one column on the side with your biggest tiles and completely full at all times, playing with the 3x4 space leftover to make builder tiles.

You can pretty much go down right down right over and over again for a while which builds that bottom corner as well as the neighboring blocks and so on. It takes some thought after that to really build, but that gets you going. I haven't gotten the 2048 block, but had one 1024 and two 512 blocks then fricked up.
