I'm not here to judge, i'm just curious.

I don't know anybody that has purchased a used ferrari, maserati, porshe, etc. Do people actually do this? And i'm referring to the bigger, faster models, not a fricking boxter.

Had considered it at one point, till I looked at maintenance costs. Good luck with that nightmare.

I'm trying to talk a friend out of selling all his toys for a late 90s Ferrari. He'll go broke.

This the O-T and ballers like us don't mess with low end used Ferrari and Porsche. We buy brand new cars like Bugatti and McLaren straight cash in $100 bills.

I drive a German import. For some reason or another, techno music plays every time I drive and I can't turn it off.

Yes. I've admired Porsche 911 Turbos since I was a kid. I had to settle for a 4 year old 911 Carrera with 23K miles. By no means was it a mistake in the short run. Only had one minor problem with the wiper fluid reservoir, which Porsche bent over backwards to correct. Porsche's service department treats every Porsche owner like royalty - they'd even come pick my car up for oil changes if I desired. I did several track days with it, and a multi-point inspection is required prior. Porsche would do the inspections for no charge, and even take care of routine service at cost if it was done during an inspection (like brake fluid flush and refill). However, there's something lacking any time you buy a used car. After a year and a half I wanted something new and came close to buying a new Cayman S. However, I ended up going with a new Vette, and it was a wise choice. The new Vettes are so amazing, it eliminates the need to buy a used exptic when you can have a new American car with the same performance. And the new Z06 will run circles around most new exotics that are double or triple the cost.

The most desirable model of a Porsche 911 is the last of the air cooled in the late 90s. Yes, tons of people (and well to do people like Sienfeld and Jay Leno) buy these cars.

Yes, traded the 911 on the Vette in January. Tried to change my name to VetteGuy but they said it was "too gay," whatever that means.

I've looked into and looked at several for friends and some of them have followed through with buying ferrari's, mostly in the $80k-$200k range.
Insurance is surprisingly cheap but maintenance costs are huge if don't know how to do the work yourself and they require a lot of upkeep(z rated tires, valve adjustments, brakes, etc). Just to give you an idea, a brake job on a f430 costs about $10k in parts and that was years ago.

Your friend is probably better off waiting until he has enough play money to buy a ferrari instead of selling other things to fund his dream car unless he's getting a killer deal and is just going to flip it.
