I know cops used to use billy clubs instead of lethal force (guns) in situations involving uncooperative people, but it seems like it could be used effectively in many of these situations.

For instance, the Alton Sterling case. I'm not saying the cop wasn't justified seeing as he was reaching for a gun. But what if the other cop had pulled out his club and cracked him in the head?

I'm just looking for other means for cops to diffuse situations besides shooting the person.

BTW, I'm a police supporter, but just looking for ways to minimize killings.

Resist arrest and you tell me.

And I'm not speaking from personal experience.

They phased the billy club out after the Rodney King incident.

The story of the guy with his hand behind his back approaching the cops who was shot got me thinking about non-lethal ways to stop them.

Alton sterling was tazed right at the begin of the video.

It had no effect on him

Yes, tasers have largely replaced blunt force weapons.

Tasers can subdue and disable violent subjects from range and with a very low probability of injury. Blunt force weapons are likely to cause serious injury and possibly fatal injuries when used against the head, and honestly using them against anything else is pretty useless at disabling a person quickly or immediately.

See my other thread. I'm just thinking of other non-lethal ways to immediately subdue people.

Some still carry an expandable baton or a PR-24.

Problem is you only have so much room on your duty rig.

Buckle, Gun, Spare Magazines, 2 handcuff cases, radio, microphone/DVR, flashlight.

Typically you have room for one of these:

1) Tazer
2) Baton
3) pepper spray

Note: PR-24 for anyone not familiar

A billy club across the wrist will seriously impede someone from reaching for a weapon.

Again, I'm just spit-balling here, not doubting the cops.

So what you're trying to say is that Alton Sterling wrestled with the cops because he was upset about them tasting him?

No, I'm saying the other cop could have cracked his skull with a billy club after he yelled "Gun!"
