What hasn't moved to Georgia will soon.

Georgia is smart enough to figure it out...

Maybe I should have said Louisiana is too stupid to figure it out.

Industry brings in $2B in jobs, income, etc - cost the state $180MM in tax credits. How stupid is that?

A friend's father just closed his dental practice in Metairie and sold all the furniture and equipment to a movie prop company

Which don't actually "cost" the state anything. It is a discount on taxes we would not have received otherwise.

True, but I had to put it in words that the entitlement group could understand since they claim that's $180MM they wont be getting.

But the state still gets the income tax from workers and sales tax that the workers spend here.

Awesome. Since its benefitting the state so much we should do it for every industry right? Just imagine how much business we could bribe here.

Its not just the various taxes the movie industry brings in but it is also the free publicity the state gets which helps codify Louisiana even further as a growing metropolitan area nationally. The movie industry though is starting to really migrate to Georgia and once its there it aint coming back to Louisiana.

well Wolverine opened offices recently and Gambit is cranking back up in a few months, so those two will keep a good deal of people busy. Not to mention Roots, Scream, NCIS and a smattering of independent features. All is not lost.

I have worked on 7 movies in Georgia in three years and yes it's busy, but cannot meet the demand on crew and resources (stage space etc). Studios will head back to Louisiana as things begin to even out

Regardless of how they work, Georgia is just tickled pink to have the movie industry with basically the same offer as La, give or take.

So you're saying the movie industry brings tourism or something else that another industry doesn't?
