I am curious to know if they are worthwhile. A cruise down the Danube seems interesting.

Much different than the Viking Resort, let me tell you.

Probably still nice though.

If you are younger I would recommend just visiting Germany, Vienna and Budapest, you will get more bang for the buck. The average of tourist on the cruise is probably 60+. Like others said it's very expensive, I've heard around $5k pending on what package you get.

Last year I did Germany, Prague, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Istanbul for around $3k included places to stay, airfare at and travel expenses. I pretty much lived like a king in countries not on the Euro.

I took one in 1654. London was a fun place.

Very expensive. There is another much cheaper option that is good. Can't remember the name though.

Just remember it's a floating Wertkauf.

My parents are about to go on one, so we'll see. It looks fun to me though!

I have been to Budapest. It's a really cool place, and most people speak English because Hungarian is so weird for other people to learn. It's also fun to just carry around 10,000-forint bills (where 10,000 forints are about $36).

I have been to Budapest as well. It is a beautiful place.

Krakow is fantastic too. So much less expensive than Western Europe.

Go on an Avalon Cruise instead of Viking. Cousin of mine is travel agent. Said that Viking spends all of their money on advertising and Avalon gives more to their customers.

We went on Avalon twice in Europe. Awesome experience. Danube and Rhein Rivers were awesome! Budapest amazing, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Netherlands....great trip man.

BTW, there's NOTHING "blue" about the Danube.

Yes, did it with both sets of our parents, and kids. Grandparents are late 70s/early 80s,we are early 50s,kids were 17 & 19.Went over Christmas a couple of years ago.

There were several multi-generational families and there were probably a couple dozen or so under 25 of the 190 on board. Majority were between 50 and 65,I'd guess. Just a handful under 18. My kids made friends with several other college age kids and hung out in the bar every night.

We all thought it was great. You travel at night, wake up in a new place. Going through the locks is a cool experience. Staff is incredible, food is good, alcohol is included with meals. Tours are included and well done. They break you into manageable small groups.

We added 2 days in Budapest on front end and 3 days in Prague at end. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I'd recommend it. Thinking about doing the Russia or China cruise.

I had some friends do it. They missed a whole day because they were behind schedule and missed their window for going under the bridge.

In 2012, we went from Amsterdam to Budapest (the Grand European Vacation). Major stops in Kinderjik, Netherlands, Cologne, Regensburg, Melk, Germany and Vienna. Each day there is a planned bus tour or walk through the city centers. We went in late November. While cold, it wasn't brutal and the prices were much lower. There's complimentary wine and beer at lunch and dinner and champagne at breakfast.
Before the cruise, we did a day and a half at Bayeux, France (Normandy Beach guided tour) and a day and a half in Paris (Stayed in the La Defense district)
Thoroughly enjoyed the cruise as it is a small group (~300). Would do again, but I am now a little wary of the happenings in Europe.

I did. It seemed like I was the only one burning and pillaging, and when I mentioned rape you'd have thought it was a crime.
