Has anyone noticed the prices of carbonated drinks lately?

Was doing my weekly look at krogers new sales ad in my app and noticed that coke, Mountain Dew, etc are $9.99 for a 12 pack. That is absolutely ridiculous. 2 years ago they were like $4.99 or $5.99. That's basically a 100% price increase in 2 years. But inflation is coming down people

And/or these companies know people are paying more for other things and will pay more for their product because they are hooked on things like this.

Story from Reuters a few weeks ago.

quote:

PARIS, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Carrefour (CARR.PA), opens new tab is telling customers in four European countries it will no longer sell products, such as Pepsi, Lay's crisps and 7up because they have become too costly, in the latest tug-of-war over prices between retailers and global food giants. From Thursday, shelves for PepsiCo (PEP.O), opens new tab products at Carrefour stores in France, Italy, Spain and Belgium will carry signs saying the store will no longer be stocking the brands "due to unacceptable price increases", a spokesperson for the French supermarket giant said.

We don't really drink soft drinks but all groceries are up, by a lot. Most things are double or close to double what they were a few years ago.

ETA: it's definitely increased at a higher % than my salary

Corporations have been raising prices to rake in more profit under the cover of inflation. This is pretty well known.

I remember not all that long ago they were always running specials where you could get three 12 packs for $5. But that was back in the days of mean tweets and Russia, Russia, Russia.

This is how you know it’s pure profit taking.

Once they could hide behind “Well, the cost of aluminum has gone up!”

Can’t tell me it costs $2 more per 2L for the plastic (that’s probably leaking micro plastics anyway).

From a glass half full perspective it’s a good reminder not to consume sugar water, but as someone who really enjoys carbonated water the price changes have been shocking.

When you factor in shrinkflation for portions it’s just as bad or worse with other products.

It’s been that way. Have you seen coffee prices? $8 for community.

Just about the same price as a 12er of macro brew.

Powerade, a Coca-Cola product, has went from 79 cents for a 32 oz bottle, to $1.39 for a 28 Oz bottle.

Cut the size of the product and raise the price. Thank you, Pedo Joe Biden

Odd that only in the last three years did literally every business in America discover this thing called greed. Did they hold a big meeting or something where they all decided at the same time that from now on they’ll be greedy?

The weird thing is how the prices fluctuate.

One week 24 packs will be 9.99. The next day they’re 15.99. Then back to 9.99 then up to 12.99.
