I'd buy two because they can get compromised in setting the turlet.

They sure can. I've changed my share, but it ain't all that easy. It's an acquired skill.

But I'm not paying some plumber $150 to do it for me.

I've recently adopted the "Sani Seal" foam ring because I'm not usually good enough to set the toilet just right on the first try. So far they've been great with no leaks or escaping sewer gas - more expensive but way more convenient than traditional wax.

Last project involved a tile floor where the tile guys set the tile high - a PVC spacer ring and the foam ring and some extra long bolts and it's solid as a toilet can be.

What exactly is the process besides removing the toilet and the ring, replace ring, screw down toilet? I have to do this soon.

I use these in my rentals. The 300lb hoes don't even rock the turlet. Easy Peasy. No mess.

Shut the water off.
Flush & drain.
Unhook water supply.
Unbolt terlet. Remove.
Throw up.
Jam a wet towel in hole to stop sewer gag gas.
Clean up everything.
Hope the collar is all in good shape.
New bolts
Wax ring on bottom or terlet
Remove gas blocker.
Throw up.
Set terlet carefully over bolts
Tighten nuts but don't crack the ceramic.
Make sure it's level & doesn't rock.
Reattach water supply.
Turn on and check for leaks.

That's the basics. If I missed anything, I'll update tomorrow.
